Isabella, Granny Floyd & Edward in the early 1940s . His war record gave him as 5ft 7 ins, so his wife and Granny Floyd must have been very small!

I do remember hearing about Chevington Drift as a child perhaps that's where my grandfather- Edward - worked as a young man but he was a "shot firer"- a miner who loads and fires drill holes- in Ellington Pit when I was a child.

2005: The last day at Ellington Pit

~1947-1956. He was a "shot firer" in Ellington Pit. But he was receiving radio therapy treatment for Lung Cancer from ~ 1951, so might not have been able to work a lot of the time from then - but Pat thinks he would have still received money from the Mine Company

His daughter, Annie Mann, moved from Newbiggin to 71 Albion Terrace, Lynemouth around 1951- to help whist he was receiving treatment for cancer

Pat's recollections of him, 1950-1956: He was a wonderful man, could always find the first spring flowers, see birds nests with tiny chicks, everything to do with nature he had a great interest in. Every Sunday, with my dog Dincy we walked to Cresswell & back, always an adventure, finding special things.
