Annie McQuillen 1920-1976
Born in Ashington into a mining family. An only child. Married a Painter & Decorator
She was only 4ft 10 in.
1920 Annie Sanderson McQuillen was born Ashington-maybe actually in Lynemouth - Morpeth 17/7/1920 to Edward Cecil McQuillen & Isabella Sanderson .

1920-1939 The family likely lived in Lynemouth, maybe in 3 Eden Terrace all the time

She was very close to her cousin, Ivy Hedley, throughout her childhood, Lynemouth being only 4 k N of Newbiggin by the Sea.
1939. Likely living with her parents at 3 Eden Terrace Lynemouth Morpeth in 1939 register. Her details officially closed as she was born less than 100 years ago- even though she died in 1976!! I could get them to open the entry as I have her dc - is it worth doing so - question for Chris! Would give an occupation for her- or does Pat know what she did on leaving school? - yes, she worked in a shop. So, not worth the trouble of getting her 1939 entry opened

~1937-1940. The above wedding photo has Annie as a bridesmaid, far right - was the bride/groom a relation? Could it be Ivy marrying Charles Lymer
1939-1942? Joined the WRAC. It is thought she worked in Administration in it . Nothing about her on FMP Military Records
She might have worked at RAF Polebrook, Northamptonshire, where Clark Gable was an ObserverGunner with the American forces in 1943; he flew 5 missions between 4/5/1943 and 23/9/1943, but could have been there March onwards . Pat tells the story of returning form school one day to find her, normally stoical, mother in floods of tears. When she enquired why , the answer was ;Clark Gable had died'- Pat had never heard of him, and no explanation was forthcoming. But, years later, after her mother's deat, Pat found a photo of Annie with an unknown man- in uniform? - and someone told her that it was Clark Gable . If Annie did work there, then she only overlapped with him in the first few weeks of May

1943. Annie Sanderson McQuillen, 22, married William Mann , 22, on 22/5/1943 in Lynemouth Parish Church by licence. Both in H M F. His address 42 Fourth Row Ashington, hers 3 Eden Terrace Lynemouth. His father James Mann, miner..Her father incorrectly entered as David McQuillen, but there is a note on the rhs altering this to Edward Cecil McQuillen. Witnesses at the marriage were Wilfred Richard Mann & Joyce Mann, his brother & sister, though the J could stand for his father

This card seems to imply that Annie Mann was living: 1. 1945 3 Eden Terrace, Lynemouth - ie with her parents, logical during the war- except that she was in fact in the WRAC. 2. Oct 1945 she moved to 142 Berridge Street, Sheerness, Kent. Presumably her husband was stationed down there . 3. By Jan 1946, back to Lynemouth . 4. In Mar 1948 she moved to 34 Meldon Terrace, Newbiggin by the Sea. 5. April 1951 8 Cleveland Terrace, Newbiggin by the Sea
Then presumably?, ration books ended soon after this - but No. They were abolished 4/7/1954. Maybe she was issued with a new one after this
Annie & William had 2 children: Patricia 1946 & Kathleen 1961
