Individually
1. John Dunn Sanderson 6/9/1886- 1960, His grandfather was also a John Dunn Sanderson 1830-1895- yet to find where the Dunn came from, but suspect it was the maiden name of his namesake's mother, Agnes . Censuses say born South/North Shields . Thus think he was registered as John Dean Sanderson South Shields Dec 1896
1910. John D Sanderson married Mary A Elder Morpeth Sep 1910
1911C. 32 Simonside Terrace, Chevington Drift : 15 Simonside Terrace was the address where his younger brother Alexander Sanderson 1896 was living when he left Northumberland , with his wife and young son, for a new life in Australia in 1926
| John Dunn | Sanderson | Head | Married | Male | Coal Miner Hewer | 24 | 1887 | South Shields Northland | |
| Mary Ann | Sanderson | Wife | Married | Female | - | 22 | 1889 | Amble Northland | |
| Norman Wilfred | Sanderson | Son | Single | Male | - | 0 | 1911 | Chevington Drift Northland |
They had 3 more children Elsie Sanderson Morpeth Jun 1912: . John D Sanderson Morpeth Dec 1914 & Elizabeth J R Sanderson Morpeth Jun 1918. John Dunn Sanderson 1914 died North C. 1972
Have not found a WW1 record for him - likely he continued working as a miner
"There was a brother who lived somewhere near Amble Northumberland, I think he must have died in late 1950 can't remember his name but I think his wife was Lizzie"-Pat .
Could this have been he?, although wife not a Lizzie, since both twins went to Australia
1939 . John D Sanderson, born 6/9/1886, colliery puller up above, "H W" , P.W.C. 477/8591, is living with just his wife, Mary A , at 1 Willow House, Swarland Terrace, Morpeth. H. W. stands for Heavy Worker and Heavy Workers were issued with extra rations during wartime to keep up their strength. His 2nd son, colliery surface worker, born 4/11/1914, has married, Elizabeth Wardrope in 1937, and is living 176 North Row, S. Broomhill, Chevington. He, in his turn, calls his son born Jun 1940, John D Sanderson!
John D Sanderson, stated age 73, dies North C Jun 1960
A John D Sanderson - maybe he born 1940- is living 2, Fairfield Drive, Ashington, Northumberland, NE63 9SL in 2005- FMP
2. Jane Sanderson Tynemouth Sep 1888,
Thought she was registered as Jane Davison Sanderson Tynemouth Sep 1889- asTynemouth includes North Shields . BUT, no idea where the Davison came from, AND there is also a Jane Thompson Sanderson registered Castleward Dec 1889: Jane Thompson was her grandmother!! And indeed Jane Davison Sanderson appears in 1911C and is NOT she!, as does jane Thompson Sanderson in the 1891C, and is NOT she either!. Thus concluded she was registered Tynemouth Sep 1888!
Could marry John George Clouston/ Joseph Leathard in 1907 or John Charlton/George Thompson in 1909 - failed to find her as any of these in 1911C
Ethel & Georgina Thompson 1913, John T Thompson 1915, Ronald Thompson 1918 & Ronald Mathew Thompson 1922, mother Sanderson
John G Clouston 1913, Stanley C Clouston 1918 & Edward C Clouston 1920, mother Sanderson- do not think this is she, born Bedlington in 1911C
Does Pat recognize either of these surnames ? NO . But my feeling is that she had married by 1911!
Jane Sanderson does not die in Northumberland 1901-1930, nor have I found her, single, travelling to Sydney 1906-1930 like 3 of her siblings did
3. Margaret Sanderson 1890- 1964, Tynemouth Dec 1890. Must have died as Margaret Amos Northumberland North Second Jun 1964, stated age 73

Margaret Amos - she was very tall
Married Vincent Amos- miner hewer from around Chevington- Morpeth Mar 1912 . " Vincent Amos 1889 died 3/5/1917 of wounds received in Flanders. Buried in Etaples Military Cemetery but also commerorated alongside his father in law's grave

Nothing on the back of this other than Vince - we think he is on the right above here, and on the left below

Postcard Vince sent , 31/1/1916 from Alnwick, to his 'sister' Bella Sanderon ; she in fact his sister in law.- the one on the left is a Corporal
Look up Vince's war record to find his height
" What do you think of ?? the Corpl is amos two/too" - we do not know what this means?? Anyone any ideas?:
"I think he is telling Bella that there is another Amos in the battalion.(too!).If you check the roll for the 1/7th. Northumberland Fusiliers there is a J. Amos in No. 2 company. Somewhere I have a photograph of George, Vincent and another man outside a tent at Alnwick. Could they be the three Amos's of the Battalion? " - this received from Edward Amos 13/2/2020 . morpeth@edamos.plus.com
.
Also remembered alongside the grave of his father in law in Broomhill Cemetery, Hadstone, Alnwick - just about Chevington Drift

Morpeth Herald 17/5/1917
Details on CWGC site: Sergeant, Service Number 290203. Date of Death: 3/5/1917. Age 28. Regiment/Service: Northumberland Fusiliers. 1st/7th Bn. Grave Reference XVIII. G. 11A.Etaples Military Cemetery
"The Morpeth Herald 7/5/1920 reports proposals by Broomhill and Chevington Drift to erect cottages for widows of colliery workers killed in 1914-18. A site opposite to the Vicarage was granted by Lord Grey, and fund raising was proposed. £111.10s had already been raised, and people were proposing to contribute 6d per week. However, local enquiries by the East Coquet LHS have not been able to find any further information".
1912 George A S Amos was born Morpeth Jun 1912. "He died in Hawick Scotland in Sept.1976, never married".
1939 Register. Cannot find Margaret/George Amos - searched extensively, outside Northumberland too. Maybe in Scotland? Harry said in his letter that George Amos had looked after Ron Brown- was this his employer for whom he drove lorries and acted as their personal chauffeur
4. Ann Sanderson 1894, Morpeth Mar 1894 - 1919
1911-1914 Ann Sanderson went out to Sydney - maybe with a brother ?? Could only be George - there is a George Sanderson, but aged 19, going out to Freemantle in 1913, no occupation given
1944. An Annie Sanderson , 20, domestic, goes out to Sydney on the Thermistocles on 2/4/1914
Ann Sanderson married a William Hedley in Sydney 1914. Likely had a son William Hedley who died in 1915 in Kirr Kirri. She gave birth to Ivy Hedley in 1919. her husband was a miner from Chevington Drift
.
William & Ann Hedley - photo likely taken in 1914.
1919. Ann Hedley died- maybe of Spanish flu? - in Kurri Kurri 29/7/1919, her daughter being 4 months old - thus born April 1919

5& 6 twins . Pat is sure both twins went out to Australia, and one of them had both legs amputated - much more work now done - see below- but do not see how they could both be miners up to 1963 if one of them had had their legs amputated ?
5. George Sanderson 1896 Morpeth Jun 1896 baptised Cresswell 25/3/1896 - 1963-8 Australia
Have not found an army record for him, so likely stayed working as a miner during the war
George Sanderson marries Margaret E Pattison Morpeth Jun 1919- no mention of this in local newspapers FMP
1920. Ellen I Sanderson born Morpeth Dec 1920
1923. George Sanderson, aged 27, miner, of West Blackburn, Choppington, Northumberland goes out to Sydney with a W A Pattison, on 10/4/1923. Choppington ~ 6 k SW of Ashington .FMP
1924. His wife, Margaret E Sanderson, 24, and daughter, Ellen I sanderson, 3, travel out with the father, miner, mother & 2 siblings, John & Mark, of WA Patison- all from Choppington, on the 8/7/1924 on the Largs Bay from London to Sydney - FMP
In 1930, 1936, 1953 & 1963 George & Margaret Elizabeth Pattison appear in the Australian Electoral Roll in Sawyer St Paxton, then Vernon Street Paxton by 1963- he a miner. Paxton around Bellbird, Hunter His son George dies 1980 - from Jongbloed Ancestry Tree . In 1963, also George Jnr with Anne at Oliver Street, Cessnock - & still there in 1968 : Wilson James Sanderson with Iris Lillian at 34 Charlton Street: and Francis John Sanderson with Margaret at 72 Desmond Street
Jongbloed Ancestry Tree has children George Sanderson and Ellen I Sanderson born to George & Margaret Elizabeth
I have contacted the Ancestry tree of Larry Jongbloed who has George Sanderson 1896 as a direct ancestor - 7/2/2016. But the George Sanderson 1896 he has on his tree has an incorrect army record for him. But, on the other hand, this Larry seems to be a descendant of our George , down through George >1924-1980, Newcastle, NSW, Leone 13/2/1958, Cessnock - 22/2/2010, Larry. No other Ancestry trees with sandersons as direct ancestors . Leone had one brother
So, George Sanderson dies >1963 and likely <1968- unfortunately Trove Oz does not cover thus decade. His wife, Margaret Elizabeth Sanderson, is in 1968 & 1972 Electoral Roll in 20 Vernon Street, Cessnock, so she likely dies 1972-1977
George Jnr Sanderson & wife Anne are in Allen Street Cessnock in 1972 & 1977 Rolls
Ellen Isabella Sanderson married John Alec Bennett in Cessnock in 1945
Leone Sanderson obviously married a Jongbloed ~1980
6. Alexander Sanderson 1896, Morpeth Jun 1896 , baptised Cresswell 25/3/1896- 1963-8 Australia
1915. Enlisted 11/10/1915, aged 19 years with the Northumberland Fusiliers A. R Pte 291142 . Stayed a Pte throughout the war. Seemed to go to France on 12/3/1916, back to England on 14/11/1917. Transferred for employment as a miner with the Broomhill Coal Company Acklington on 20/9/1918, but seemingly not discharged until 2/4/1919. Got the Victory Medal & the British Medal
1918, autumn. He is on the Absent Voters List for Chevington, address 28 Linhope Terrace . 291142 N.F. Army Res [Description of Service, Ship, Regiment, Number, Rank, Rating, &c., or recorded address.]
1919. Married Elizabeth A Conroy Morpeth Jun 1919 - no mention of this in local newspapers FMP
1921. Son George Sanderson born Morpeth Mar 1921
1926. Alexander Sanderson went to Australia on the Oronsay which sailed from London for Sydney on 16/10/1926. Mr A Sanderson 30, miner, Mrs E A Sanderson ,29, Master G Sanderson, 5: all of 15 Simonside Terrace, East Chevington, Morpeth
Did he have more children born in Australia??
- photo sent back of he and May at Ron's wedding . Was Elizabeth known as May?? Was Ron a son?? - was son George known as Ron??

On the back of this: Love Alex & May,at Ron's wedding some time ago If you have one give it to Annie Eh. . . .Also added later- "Nan's brother & wife in Australia "
1930, 1934, 1935, 1943, 1949, 1954, 1958, 1963. Alexander, miner, and Elizabeth Ann Sanderson are in the Australian Electoral Rolls in Abermain, Weston- until 1935, , and then in Evans Street, Belmont . By 1943 with son George, assistant surveyor, maybe son Herbert Edward , commercial traveller, living Main Road, Belmont . By 1963 no son George , but Herbert Edward, theatre proprietor & Noel Gustav, traveller, and 1 wife in Ernest St Belmont - do not feel the latter would be related!!
Would seem to die 1963-1968, aged 67-72, as does his wife, Elizabeth Ann Sanderson - unfortunately Trove Oz does not cover this decade
Summing up, George went out in 1923 settling around Bellbird/Cessnock. Alexander went out in 1926 to Weston- only ~ 8 k east of Bellbird - but then moved a considerable distance, ~ 50 k, SE to Belmont between 1935 & 1943. I wonder if the twins stayed in touch!!
PAT - search your photos/docs for any other clue to Australia. Isabella died in 1969, so it would appear that her twin brothers predeceased her: my feeling is that she would have been informed by one of her nephews/nieces
7 Isabella Sanderson 19/9/1900, Alnwick Dec 1900 baptised Chevington 10/10/1900- 1969
