1902. Her mother, Elizabeth Goebel died , Barbara being 9 - Her father remarried a mean woman and Barbara 'had to do all the cooking and cleaning & take care of the kids' ( 4 of them younger than she, but then I think there were more babies from wife number 3). The boys worked on the farm .
Need the 1911CC.

Barbara aged 19
Maybe ~ 1913. Barbara went to Winnipeg on her own - sent by her father. She stayed with a cousin, Hertha Downey.Met Jack Schlosshauer then his brother Henry & married him.
1914. Barbara Goebel married Henry Schlotthauer. on 27/1/1914 in Wiinipeg. The m.c.- once seen by A N Other?? - apparently had Schlosshauer on it . In 1940 they changed their german surname to Slater - see Henry's page
.
Henry & Barbara
1914. Eleanor Freda Schlotthauer was born 27/11/1914 to Henry & Barbara in Manitoba, Winnipeg . Schlotthauer was crossed out on Eleanor's 1934 m.c and replaced by Slater. Were they just desperate not to be interned in Canada when WW2 broke out?. And when A N Other - not now granddaughter Lorarine Dey - saw, around 1982, that 1914 m.c of her grandparents and asked questions, Barbara's response was livid: 2 weeks later she , Barbara, and her siblings wrote to Lorraine, sister Dorothy, and all their cousins, saying she would take the secret to her grave.; the letter was signed, apparently, by her Goebel siblings as well
Other children were ; Alvira 1916; Elsie 1918; Harold 1923; Arthur 1925 - approx. dates
1916CC. Henry Schlotthauer, 27, was a teamster employed by Liquor W. Spoke English & German , Living with wife, Barbara, 24, and their 1st daughter, at 523 Aberdeen Avenue, Winnipeg. Born Russia, racial origin German. Immigrated 1903, naturalizes 1908 . Original Census entry viewable on Ancestry
| Henry Schlotthauer | 27 | Head |
| Barbara Schlotthauer | 24 | Wife |
| Frieda Schlotthauer | 2 | Daughter |
Obtaining his naturalization document would be good! he would only be 13/14 when he arrived in Canada, so likely, but not certain, that he arrived with his parents
1918. Her father , Johann Frederick Goebel, died
1921CC. On 1 Jun 1921 Henry Schlotzhauer, 30, was living Winnipeg North, Manitoba,. This census says he immigrated in 1902, and has been trancribed by Ancestry as being from Scotland: this word is actually indecipherable and an Ancestry member suggests it might be Saratov, Russia
| Henry Schlotzhauer | 30 | Head |
| Bertha Schlotzhauer | 27 | Wife |
| Elenora Schlotzhauer | 6 | Daughter |
| Alvina Schlotzhauer | 4 | Daughter |
| Elsie Schlotzhauer | 2 | Daughter |
| William Galle | 21 | Father-in-law |
William Galle, 21, - obviously not a father in law! but Barbara ( Bertha here!) had a brother Wihelm of that age - so Galle should read Goebel
2 more children were born, Harold ~1923 and Arthur~1925

~1927 Elsie, Alvina, Eleanor, Harold & Art (bottom)
~1951. Fred Dey and his wife, Eleanor Slater/ Schlotthauer, emigrate to the US: sponsored by Barbara's youngest brother, William 1900, who had already established himself in Portland, Oregon . Do her parents, leave Canada too?? Seemingly no. Barbara Slater dies in 1980 in Winnipeg
1965. Her husband, Henry Slater, dies 15/2/1965, presumably in Winnipeg . Have failed to find an obituary for him

barbar in later life- PLEASE estimate a year Lorraine
1980 . Barbara Slater, 87, dies on 4/2/1980 ( Kristin said 14/3/1980). She had lived at 525 McAdams Avenue , Winnipeg, . her sons were still in Wunnipeg: 2 daughters were in Portland, Oregon, and Alvina was in Victoria, B.C. . She was interred in the family plot Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens

1980 Barbara Slater. Her sons were still in Winnipeg, Eldest 2 daughters (Eleanor and Elsie) were in Portland. Alvina in Victoria B.C. Alvina also lived in Nanaimo, BC, but I’m not sure if that was before or after Victoria. Her married name was Matthes.
Elsie’s married name was Johnson, husband William (Bill), one child Judy (married name Kramer)
Barbara Slater died March 14, 1980
Art and Harold stayed in Winnipeg and both died there. Harold earlier, then Art
