Born Renfield Street, Renfrew. Father, Alexander, is given as Captain Dredging Machine .Informant was Hugh William Patison, surgeon, of 31 Hairst St, Renfrew: this interesting as next child, Hugh, is given a middle name of Patison- this appearing in 1911C when he is living with parents Alexander & Agnes! Her father is missing from this. He was still alive, maybe working in England, as her youngest brother Graham was born in England or back in Ireland . He died in 1913

1891C. I cannot find Helen. Her parents are also missing from this census - so had the family moved to Ceylon, for her father to dredge there??

2 of her brothers, Hugh & Graham, are living with her grandmother Agnes Houston, nee Graham, in Renfrew,

1894. Helen Houston marries Alexander Muir in Colombo Sri Lanka (Ceylon) 05/11/1894. Does John have this mc? -think NOT, the date has just come from the bc of son, William Muir, in 1899. I feel her father must have moved there, as very unusual for an unmarried woman aged 23 to be out there by herself in the 1890s. But, she could have gone as a governess I suppose

Her life parallels that of her husband until his death in 1907.

Helen with her daughter Ruby 1952. . . . . . . .~1930? Helen with her finery

It is thought that Helen lived in Hebburn ~1920-1960 near her daughter, Ruby McConway. But I am beginning to think she only went there after the death of her husband . Maybe they lived in Scotland before that?? Hebburn is around 3 miles east of Newcastle.

1939. Ellen Elliott, b.12/12/1871, widowed is living 13 St John's Avenue, Hebburn with her married daughter Ruby

Ellen Elliott 12 Dec 1871 Female Unpaid Domestic Duties Widowed 51 3
Robert K McConway 24 Sep 1884 Male Branch Bank Manager also PWC Married 51 1
Ruby M McConway 29 Apr 1896 Female Unpaid Domestic Duties Married

Thus her husband predeceased her. But unable to find a death for him in the NE . No death on FS in India. . A Harold Elliott does die in Gateshead in 1923, but aged just 33 - this surely ridiculous!

1960. Helen Elliott nee Houston died 02/02/1960, aged 88, at 32 Victoria Road East, Hebburn Nr Newcastle- Durham North East - of chronic myocarditis & Senility. Informant was F S McConway, nephew of 20 Park Road, Hebburn. She is stated as the widow of Harold Elliott, accountant. F S McConway is thought to be the nephew of her son-in-law, Robert Keen McConway. No probate
