William Alexander Muir 1899-1980
William Muir was born West Quarter, Glassford, South Lanarkshire, Scotland 30/9/1899 to parents Alexander Muir, marine engineer, & Ellen [baptised Helen] Houston . Glassford is ~25 miles SE of Glasgow. Glassford is where Helen Houston's parents, Alexander & Agnes Houston, were living in 1901C & in 1911C, actually in Alston Street which is in the centre. . . Graham and Anne visited Glassford in 2012: it is just a hamlet and West Quarter was another hamlet just outside it

He was the third and last child, the earlier two, Ruby May Muir & Robert Home Muir having been born in Tardeo, Bombay, India.
1901C.William A Muir 1, is living at 75 Ashborn Road Toxteth Park Liverpool. with his parents and 2 elder siblings Possibly temporary accommodation awaiting return to India.
No shipping record found for the family returning to Bombay, where his father had worked around 1897 & 8.
The family then lived in Bombay where his father, Alexander Muir, is thought to have managed a jute mill business

The family returned to UK after death of Alexander Muir in 1907 - maybe as late as 1910. By this time his mother had remarried an accountant, Harold Elliott, in Bombay, 1909.
