Here are the McKendricks, approx. 1885, seated father William Brown McK. Mother Jessie (Garvie) McK with baby Ninian (died in infancy). Standing centre William Brown McK son, standing left Annie ( married Alec Syme lived Johannesburgh SA). sitting centre Jean/Jane Garvie ( married George Norval lived Perth). Seated right Robert Garvie McK. Dont know the dogs name! 

1891C. Robert McKendrick, 20, butcher, is living at Marshall Place West Perth, with his parents, siblings, grandfather & a servant

1899. His father dies 16/4/1899. 8 months later, Robert Garvie McKendrick 29, butcher, marries Annie Mason McLellan 21, in Blythswood Glasgow on 12/12/1899 at the Alexandra Hotel, Bath Street, Glasgow. His address 16 Marshall Place Perth, hers 48 Alexandra Parade, Glasgow. His parents: William McKendrick, butcher deceased & Jessie Garvie. Her parents: William McLellan clothlapper, journeyman & Jeanie Gilfillan, deceased. .One of the witnesses Jeannie Gilfillan McLellan, her younger sister.

1899.Leslie's Directory gives a Mrs William McKendrick, his mother, still living in 16 Marshall Place No entry of his own, just William McKendrick & sons, butchers, at 33 St John Street

He returns to work in the family butchers after the wedding and stays there till ~1904 when he moves, curiously to Galashiels

1901C. Robert G McKendrick, 36, butcher, is living at 36 Scott Street, Perth with his wife and his sister, Jane

1903-4 Not in Leslie's Directory under his own name , & not at 36 Scott Street which has around a dozen occupants - just William McKendrick & sons, butchers, at 33 St John Street & William McKendrick, butcher, - his elder brother - at 27 Balhousie Street This elder brother, William, has no doubt inherited the family business, so he has to start out by himself. Maybe he goes off to Galashiels to do this in 1903, leaving his wife to give birth to Jane in Perth in early 1904 before following him.

1904-1905. He probably wants to establish a business of his own to support his family & moves the family from Perth to Galashiels. This is in Selkirk south of Edinburgh and ~20 miles east of Peebles on map below . No Galashiels directories available online

1907 The family move from Galashiels to Renfrew. Not in the Renfrew directory 1907-8 but there 1909-10 but Roberta is born Moorpark Renfrew November 1907

I was unclear about Galashiels Lanark- this nonsense - birth of Jessie !. Looked up her birth on SP and it was in 1905, Galashiels, Selkirk, this a really long way from Perth, and then a long way to Renfrew, but at least his wife had grown up in Glasgow and maybe now had relatives in nearby Renfrew.
