Philip Whincop 1801 - 1876
Going back : an Edward Whincop and Elizabeth had a daughter in Wissett Suffolk in 1742- IGI. Wissett is less than 10m W of Covehithe
1801. Philip Whincop born to Richard Whincop, a labourer, and Elizabeth Baldrey - no baptism found, IGI, FS, Ancestry or FMP, father's name known from 1851m.c - in Covehithe Suffolk. Actually only the 1851C states this Covehithe is S of Lowestoft, N of Southwold . Philip calls his 3rd son Richard in 1831
AGarwood Whincop & Phoebe Roberts, married 1796, had children baptised in Lowestoft in 1799 George, 1801 Phoebe, 1803 Jeremiah,. They would seem to be the parents of a Robert Whincop who had Robert Garwood Whincop baptised 1829 in Earsdon by North Shields, Northumberland .
So, with a father Richard - known from his 1851m.c. - then Robert Whincop serving in the Merchant navy in 1845 cannot be be Philip's brother,& Garwood Whincop & Phoebe Roberts are not his parents . The fact that Robert was up in Earsdon by North Shields, Northumberland in 1829, when Philip was also there, show that these 2 bits of circumstancial evidence are invalid!!.

The 1871C has him as blind then, and ,maybe, says! for 20 years, so maybe this is why he left the Merchant Navy before the age of 50 ?

Ann Uttin Whincop dies Yarmouth Dec 1852 , but no death of a Maria until 1861 and meanwhile another Maria was born Dec 1853 ? Could the original Maria 1852 now be called Louisa - Cannot find Louisa's birth - neither as Whincop nor as Shimmon! and mother Maria 1819 did have a sister Louisa 1826 . Where has the name Ulton/Uttin come from?? - one would think from his wife, Maria Shimmon, but then why not Shimmon, like the middle name Newby was given to all his children by his first wife . Maria's mother was Sarah Gibbs, so not even the grandmother's maiden name!!

What has happened to Louisa 1852 and Emma 1860? Former - maybe a servant ? Latter seemingly does not die 1861-1881 - seemingly marries in 1882, but an 1886 Norwich marriage - on Ancestry, - gives James Debenham Whincop as the father of this Emma Jane- must be the Emma J Whincop b.1853 Manchester . So, our Emma Jane Whincop remains unaccountable
Maria Whincop, 18, 1854 marries Henry T Housego, 21, on 29/6/1872 Yarmouth
1876, Philip Whincop 75, dies Yarmouth Mar 1876. Buried 24/3/1876 in Great Yarmouth- FMP. No probate found.
