Marjorie Catherine Chrissie Price 1927-2018

When Marjorie died in 2018 Meryl inherited loads of family photos and paperwork.  Initially there were other priorities but over the last couple of years I have been gradually working through it all.  What she would like to do is produce an album with key photos and facts for my brother's 2 children, so important material is hopefully not lost.
To start with she is focussing on her mother's Dad's side of the family, partly because my cousin's husband (looking at his wife's family history) has been asking her various questions on this family line.

 

 

1927, Marjorie C C Price was born 29/5/1927 in Balham to George W Hugo Price & Chrissie Gladys Blundell

They were Salvation Army officers, having married on 21st May 1919.  However, when Marjorie was born, Gladys became ill.  It was probably something like postnatal depression but, despite George Hugo apparently trying to get the best treatment for her she didn't get better and ended up living in an institution until she died on 23rd November 1962. 

As a consequence of this Marjorie never lived with her parents.  Initially she lived with her grandmother and aunt on her mother's side - that is Christiana Blundell (nee Frankland) the widow of Charles Blundell and Lillie Blundell. 

Marjorie told her daughter that she lived with her Grandma (Christiana) and her Auntie Lillie until 1939 (when she started living in Weymouth) and that she was happy living with them both.  She writes in her 'life story' that she thinks she was quite small when they moved to a house in Whyteleafe, Surrey called 'The Gables' and it was there where she started school.  They stayed living there until Lillie married John (known as Jack) Logan in 1936.  He became a Chapel minister in Plumstead and they all moved to live in a house in Bostal Heath near Abbey Wood.  Christiana and Marjorie then attended the Plumstead Salvation Army Corps.  Marjorie then went to a school called Bedonwell Hill Primary School which she could walk to.  Lillie and Jack's daughter (Amaris) was born while they were all living in Bostal Heath.  Coming up to the age of 11 Marjorie took the Scholarship exam (similar to the 11+ exam) which she passed and was then accepted into the Dartford County School for Girls.  She writes in her 'life story' that she thinks she had to catch 2 buses to get there, one to Bexley Heath, then one to Dartford.  She attended that School for just one year because when she was due to start her second year she was then in Weymouth. School there??

This photo was taken in August or September 1939 when Marjorie was on holiday with Lillian (Lilly) Price, Edward HPrice and Jane Price in Sidmouth.  World War II broke out while they were on this holiday and Marjorie's father (G W Hugo Price) then decided that Marjorie should not return to her maternal Grandmother (Christiana Blundell) and Aunt (Lillie Logan) in London?/, where exactly (where she had been living) but should instead stay with her paternal Grandfather (Edward H Price), his second wife Jane and their daughter Lilly in Weymouth.

What did Marjorie do 1945-1955?

 

1955. Marjorie C C Price married Alan W East Reading Sep 1955 in Reading Salvation Army Citadel

They bought 332 London Road, Earley, Reading, Berkshire. Marjorie continued living there until she died in 2018.

1957. Meryl C A East was born Wokingham Sep 1957 at home

1959. Stephen A East was born Reading Mar 1957 . The a photo below shows Marjorie with her 2 children, her husband, her 2 brothers and her father
