Chris Brown is descended from Esther L Cassell: she married Albert Coles. Their child, Muriel Pattie Coles, married George W Brown and gave birth to my father, Derek Michael Brown. Thus, Esther being Garry's Great Aunt, Garry is a second cousin of Derek M Brown.

They had the following children: Kathleen Olive Harvey I of W 21/9/1908 - 1997, then, in New Zealand, Mary Edith Cassell Harvey 1911,, Joyce Amy Harvey 1915, Lettie Searle Harvey 1917 & Maurice William Harvey 5/8/1922
1910. 14/10/1910, Mrs Harvey & child Kate on board the Tainui from London to Wellington were his wife and firstborn. Her husband had gone out ahead of them . When Kate Martha Harvey and her daughter Kathleen arrived in NZ in 1910, they and the other passengers aboard the Tainui were quarantined on Soames Island in Wellington Harbour for 6 weeks because of an outbreak of measles on the ship enroute. Thus, when her husband George Searle Harvey, who had arrived in NZ earlier, travelled to Wellington to greet his family, he was denied access to see them.
4 more children are born to George & Kate in New Zealand : Mary Edith Cassell Harvey 1911- known as Peggy -, marries Whincop, dies 2001, : Joyce Amy Harvey 1914, marries Powrie, widowed, remarries Ronald Greenwood, dies 2003 : Lettie Searle Harvey 1917 and Maurice William Harvey 1922-1998
1910-1912. Kate & George live in Waiapu, Central Hawke's Bay. He was working for The Daily Telegraph as a representative for theNapier based newspaper. He was also both the secretary of the Anglican Church & of the Church of England Men's Society there
1913. George was transferred to the Hastings office of the newspaper. The family shifted up to Hastings and lived for a time in Karamu Road. George's area included Havelock, just a few miles along the road from Hastings.
1919-1920. The 'Harvey House ,' as it became known, at 37 Chambers Street, was commissioned in late 1919, from a friend Chapman-Taylor, and, for a singlestoried house was reasonably sized at 122 sq.m. At one thousand and thirty three pounds - fairly expensive for the times!.
1928. Her husband, George Searle Harvey, dies
Kate continues running the shop with daughter's Kathleen's help, Peggy looking after the house and younger children
1931. An earthquake of 7.8 magnitude hit Hawke's Bay. The shop was destroyed but their house survived . Kate had the shop rebuilt and continued to run it .
1936 Kate sent son Maurice, aged 14, away to school , Nelson College, for 4 years. He spent holidays with his married sisters or with friends, but was lonely and often to be seen sailing in the bay by himself
1937. Having sold the Havelock Bookshop, Kate Martha Harvey went back to UK and returned - in 1940 -having married Charles Peter Parker, Hendon Dec 1937, he the widower of her dead husband's sister Mary Elsie Harvey /Parker 1878 -1936 .
1941. Kate & Charles Parker moved to 51 Guys Hill Road, on Hospital Hill, Napier.
They were the beloved grandparents known to Garry's generation .They were devout Christians: Until their later years they never overlooked their daily,midmorning
Bible readings or the observance of quiet, reflective Sundays. Grace was always said at mealtimes, a Harvey tradition, though, as a child, it had taken Lettie some time to understand what was meant by the opening words 'For wotra batra seeva lord.'

1966. Kate Martha Parker, 86, died on 26/2/1966, having suffered from dementia for some time. She was cremated in Purewa Cemetery, Auckland, on the second of March. Her ashes were scattered there on the thirteenth of May that year.
