Megan Stockley- another tree- is the granddaughter of Laughlan Gresham another of Hugh’s children. Her father is Gavin. Jan shared a lot of my information with her and she also gave Jan some old records they had in the family.

I’m not sure how Peter Mapa fits in, quite remotely I think. I think I did ask a long time ago but can’t remember the answer now!

1879. Hugh Gresham was born Alexandra, NZ, on 28/4/1879 to Thomas Gresham & Ellen Jane Northcote

His 5 siblings were: Dorothy Isabella Gresham 1876-1919; Evangeline Caroline Constance Gresham 1878- 1954; Arthur Seilyard Gresham 1881-1945; Flora Madeleine Gresham 1884-1963; Garnet Stafford Gresham 1886 - 1976

Hugh Gresham served in the Boer war with the 8th Contingent and was the eldest son of Thomas GRESHAM, Coroner of Auckland.

His NZ War Record exists on Ancestry, Trooper 5488, 8th Contingent : his father received his Imperial S A War Clasp. A medical Examination in Auckland on 2/1/1902, the date he applied to join for service in S.A. His employer then was Guthner Braithwaite - Examine with David, on Family-1 tree

1907. Hugh Gresham married Eleanor Rewanga Gannon on 27/3/1907 at All Saints Anglican, Ponsonby, Auckland

1915. Ellen Moyra Gresham was born to Hugh & Eleanor

1916-1917. Hugh Gresham, inspector of scaffolding, living Merivale Avenue, Epsom, Auckland, was on the Army 2nd Reserve list & had 4 children

Other children were: Turangi Laughlan Gresham 1908; Roma Catherine Gresham 1909; Noel Waimana Gresham 1910; Frances Eleanor Gresham 1920; and Leah Gresham 1918, who died as a babe. ,

Hector McFarlane lived in Mountsville for 2 years with his Uncle Hugh for 2 years after leaving school and worked in the building trade with him

1928. Hugh Gresham, land agent, was living 85 St. Andrews Road, Roskill, Auckland ,along with his wife, Eleanor Rewarge Gresham

"He was for many years a Government House & Land Valuer in Rotorua. He was a member of the Rotorua Bowling Club and was interested in farming"

1935. Hugh Gresham, farmer, was living Rotorua along with his wife, Eleanor, & son Laughlan Hugh Gresham, company secretary

1938 . Hugh Gresham, farmer, was living Sunset Road, Rotorua along with his wife, Eleanor

1949. Hugh Gresham, farmer, was living 38 Grey Street, Rotorua along with his wife, Eleanor

Lauchlan (always known as Lauchie by us), eldest and only son., my Nanny Gresham and Grandpa Gresham. He died when Catherine was 1 year old.

1951. Hugh Gresham, 72, died 4/10/1951 in Auckland. Have not found an Obituary - NZ Past newspapers seem to end in 1950 ! A Service in St Lukes Church, Rotorua and then burial in Rotorua cemetery

Laughlan Hugh Gresham 1908 married Kathleen Athol Chatfield in 1938

1944. Noel Gresham was educated at the Diocesan High School, Auckland , trained at Auckland Teacher's Training College, infant teacher at the Diocesan High School, taught at Rotorua Infant school, then joined an European School in Raratonga, Cook Islands
