Patrick Gannon 1821-1895
Catherine Field-Dodgson Ancestry tree: in contact with her 8/5/2020 and received lots of photos and certificates, for which many thanks: her mother, Mary Conly, was a daughter of Eleanor R Gannon, and a 1st cousin of Catherines's . She produced a photo book of the Gannon family history, cover and 4 pages above, of which Catherine has a copy
Elizabeth Gannon Ancestry tree has the incorrect 1851C for him! & the wrong wife for Michael Joseph, as do some other trees, & therafter completely different children !
Need to find Petermapa & Megan Stockley Ancestry trees .

1851. Mary J Gannon born, 1851-1861- on an Ancestry tree but no bmd entry for her!!
1851-1854. Despite EXHAUSTIVE searches, can find no trace of a birth/baptism for his son Michael Joseph Gannon, reportedly born in Richmond, N. Yorkshire . Could he have been born just days before the family emigrated??- or even on the boat?
There is a Liverpool registration of a Michael Gannon in 1854 : think Elizabeth Gannon- who has a funny Ancestry tree- may be descended from him
1851-4. John M Gannon born - presumably England but no record: maybe a twin? He died 1919, was a butcher in Jumbunna and had a son John Anthony Gannon b.~1892
So, Patrick Gannon is a bit of an enigma during the period 1841-1854: a Land Surveyor on his 1841 m.c but then a sawyer by 1851; 3 children whose births he seemed not to register : yet seemingly had a reputation as an experienced surveyor by the time he got to Australia!!
His obituary states he had spent 'an active life in the ordnance Department of England, surveying many of the lines that now radiate all over that country' before arriving in Australia in the early fifties
Have searched FMP Newspapers, and trade records for any mention of him
1855 or earlier. Family went out to South Gippsland, Australia . No travel records on Ancestry & none on FMP
1858. James Malachy Gannon 1858-1904( see his death notice on Michael Gannon page) & Thomas Ignatious Gannon 1858-1870/1887 born .
Also Theresa Mary Gannon 1860-1861
Need to search more in TROVE for him 1855-1895
1861. Patrick Gannon was Licensed as a Surveyor in the Ballarat Region - 115 k NW of Melbourne . Ballarat is where a Bridget Gannon died in 1876
An authorised Surveyor working on the Victorian Railways for many years . Asssitant Surveyor for the Land Department
~1885. Moved to the Bena/Moyarra area- ~125 k SE of Melbourne
1895. Patrick Gannon, surveyor, 75, died 25/5/1895 in Bena, Australia.. Buried Poowong, in an unmarked grave #47B . His wife's brother, Judge Rogan, lives in Auckland . I would love to get some confirmation that he actually was a surveyor in the Ordnance Dept. in England before he emigrated!
