Mary Roberts ~1820-1880

~1820. Mary Roberts was born to a Hugh Roberts, sawman, around Bettws y Coed Wales

1820. 3 censuses give her born in 1820, all in Wales, one of them detailing Betys Coed. I thought she had a sister Jemima, b.~1831 in Liverpool - this recorded in 1871C & 1881C where she is Jemima Donnelly. Thus the family likely to have been in Liverpool by 1831. An Ancestry Donnelly tree has the parents of Jemima as Edward 1805 & Hannah 1811 - but all sorts of nonsense in the tree!!!. Maybe Jemima a more distant relative . But, there is a Liverpool, independent, baptism for Jemima to a Hugh Roberts & Margret Jones on 10/10/1830 -Ancestry . Cannot find Jemima in 1841C, and in 1851C and 1861C she is with strangers, resp. a visitor and a nurse . Her 1862 m.c. to James Donnelly - not available online- would confirm, or not, thet her father was Hugh, sawyer! - but do not think this worth another £10!

1841C. No sure census entry for her - too common a name . Aged ~21 we would not expect her still to be living with her parents

1842. Mary Roberts married John Stanley, copper smith, marries on 22/5/1842 in St Nicholas Liverpool. His father William Stanley, tinman: hers Hugh Roberts, sawman. His address Park Lane: hers Litchfield Road. Witnesses: Thomas Taylor & Iain Roberts

1871C. John Stanley, 53, Cooper Smith , is living at Greek Street Court House, Liverpool, with his wife Mary and 2 children a sewing machinist. He is given as a Cooper ??Smith, born Liverpool. Mary, a laundress, is actually down as being born in North Wales, Betys Coed- not Lancashire!!
