The above copy of her bc was no doubt obtained -in Sep 1953- to prove she was eligible for a pension when she reached 60, she having always maintained that she was born in 1894 - but in fact she was almost 70 and had thus missed out on 10 years of pension!!
Born 1894 according to her m.c.!. And to a John Hutson!

In 1969, whilst backpacking, Carol Stanley visited a cousin of Grace's who still lived in Plumstead, for a few days. Unfortunately she cannot remember her name.- "She was quite elderly but in great health and had lots of good stories. She told me that her father and Nan's father were brothers- Henry only had just the one brother Charlie . Her memory of them was of them sitting in church (Church of England) with their mother, who had a big white cape with little pearls sewn all over it and a white net on the back of her hair with also little beads on it. She said they sat in a special family pew with a little door on it. She remembered that they looked kind of "regal". Anyway she said at some point Nan's father broke away from that church and joined the Plymouth Brethren . He, Henry, was VERY strict and would not allow any mirrors or books in the home, other than the Bible. Nan- Grace- won a little story book at school one time, when she was about 7 years old and he threw it in the fire. He ate his dinner alone at a big table and after he finished the children (lots of them- I think 10 ) stood around the table to eat. I'm sure she said that when Nan was about 16 years old, she and her older brother, George, stole away on a ship heading to Canada. I assumed then that she met grandpa (Arthur Stanley), he jumped ship in Toronto to be with her. Anyway this story is, of course, all hear say and how that cousin remembered it. Unfortunately Nan had passed away the year before this trip to the UK, as I would love to have asked her about it. I don't ever remember her talking about her past".

1911C. Have not found her
1912. Likely goes out to Quebec, Grace Hutson, 26, on the Royal Edward, leaving Bristol on the 18/9/1912. Think this must be her as no other Grace Hutsons in England born 1879-1889 . Her brother George had emigrated to Quebec with his wife Amy in July 1911.
she is said in 1921CC to have immigrated in 1911 & for George it says 1910!
1911CC. Have searched for any Grace , surname like Hutson/Davis, b. England, in Ontario b. 1893-1896 - nothing
A Grace Davis 16, a servant, b. Dorking, working in Dorking and a Grace Davis, 15, servant, b. Fulham
My thought was that she might have been an orphan or illegitimate and did not actually know her mother, but
David Stanley enabled me to find her background - by having her b.c., telling us she was born 1884, and not 1894!!- as her mc led me to believe!
1917. Grace Hutson, 23, married Arthur Andrew Stanley, 24 on on 26/3/1917 Hastings, Toronto. She was born England, residing Belleville, parents John Hutson & Emily Davis [ this name added in different pen & writing! ]. The name of John for her father was wrong- he was Henry- and her age is wrong - she was 33.

1919. Arthur Stanley, 27, student, & Grace, 26, both of Toronto, both English,[ but this maybe as opposed to German!] cross the border into the US at Buffalo - Ancestry. Laura is not sure this is them, as Arthur not known to have studied and due to the fact that they would have had very little money after the war - but I feel it must be.
1920. Robert Arthur Stanley was born to Arthur & Grace 9/10/ 1920 in Ontario
1921CC. Grace Stanley, 34, b.England, immigrated 1911, is living York, Ontario with husband, Arthur (33) waiter & Robert 8 mths in 6 rooms - ages daft for both: he actually ~28, she ~ 36
192x? Her only other child, Peggy Stanley, was born
.
Grace Stanley with son Robert 1937 at Sammon Avenue . . . Peggy Stanley with her mother Grace ~1940?
More photos of her 1951-1966 on Robert's page
.
Grace with her ggrandson, Glenn Taylor. Left in her own home, right on the porch of Sammon Avenue ??
Her husband returned from WW1 deaf and almost blind. Although he worked as a steward in a gentleman's club, he apparently spent almost all his time at home in a darkened bedroom on the top floor, and would hit the floor with his stick when he wanted something .
~1965-1968. Her newly married granddaughter, Laura Taylor, husband & baby son, Glenn b. 1965?, lived with her- her husband, Arthur, being in a Veteran's home. Laura does not remember her going to visit him. She never spoke to Laura of her past.
1968. Grace Hutson Stanley, 84, died 11/12/1968 . Buried Pine Hills Cemetery, Scarborough, Ontario

This names her siblings as George, Kingston, Ontario, and Alice, Emma, Kit, John & Alfred in England - no mention of Emily, Beatrice, Edith & William
"My paternal grandparents, Grace and Arthur, had a long and happy life together. Arthur was in Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto when Grace died and, although close to death himself, was visibly affected when my father gave him the news. I don't think the age difference mattered much to either of them"- David 1944 quote
1969. Less than 2 months later, Arthur Andrew Stanley, 77, died on 30/1/1969 . Buried in Pine Hills Cemetery, Scarborough, Toronto
