Numerous sources, including deeds and published lists and accounts, place John Wolfe as a farmer in Droumgariffe townland in Kilnagross parish near Clonakilty between 1800 and 1841 . The deeds identify his wife as Elizabeth, daughter of Allen Wilson. They also identify John's father as Richard Wolfe of Beanhill or Knocknapanery, a townland adjacent to Droumgariffe and his grandfather as Richard Wolfe of Ashgrove - Gary Acheson
