2. Lynne Chidgey Gilchrist
3. Helen Chidgey Kennedy
Annie has had replies from Joan & Lynne :
Joan has taken a DNA test, but she's not very interested in genealogy, replying every 6 months or so to Annie's questions.
"Our connection began when I noted a close DNA match with Joan Benecke in Australia, in our Ancestry.com DNA tests. I wrote to Joan, and she answered on 8/7/2018"
My great grandmother came out to Sydney, Australia from 'Mt. Nugent County Cavan Ireland with her children, her husband James Lyons died in Ireland, her maiden name was Woods and born around 1844. I don't have any further information. My mother's maiden name was Low, orginally from Scotland, the young Low brothers came out to Australia to find gold and ended up in country Victoria and then NSW on the land. I have no information on the Lows, where they came from in Scotland, etc. Cheers Joan
Starting with that brief bit of information, Annie researched and built up a family outline and found that Joan was a Chidgey, and her ancestor( a great grandfather) James Lyons was born in 1821 in Newbliss (per the other sister Lynne having their grandparents' family bible).
James' 1869 marriage gave his father's name as Alexander Lyons -- something the Chidgey sisters had not known. So there we have James Lyons born 1821 in Newbliss, Co. Monaghan, to father Alexander Lyons. And, a descendant is a close DNA match with me and several other descendants of the Calvins/Colvins who lived a short distance away in Clones parish. Somewhere, a Calvin married a Lyons. Either my Calvin male ancestor had a Lyons wife, or Alexander Lyons had a Calvin wife or mother.
