Born Capheaton but his parents moved to Long Houghton in his first year .
Basically an agricultural labourer, but did other manual jobs when available

John Shotton had married Margaret Dunn in ChristChurch, Tynemouth in 1795. Other children baptised in Long Houghton :Isabella 1801 & Robert 1807. John was born in Tynemouth, but had moved up to Capheaton by 1798 and from there to Long Houghton from 1799
