1898 .Ralph Downing dies Wolstanton Sep 1898, stated age 45 . No probate.

Found 3 obituaries on FMP, but in the most informative one the print had faded!: he had been headmaster of the Silverdale Board schools for almost 20 years; his passion was cricket, playing for Silverdale and being Chairman of the North Staffordshire Cricket League; he was vice president of the Silverdale Conservative club, says he left a widow and 5 children: there were only 4, confirmed by the 1911C

On his daughter's, Betty's, 1920 m.c. he is given as an army officer. INVESTIGATE to see if any truth in this: I very much doubt it as his obituary stated he had been headmaster of the same schools from about 1879 until his death in 1898

After Ralph´s death, his widow had the remaining 3 children, then aged 6-15, baptised

1898 Cecil Downing, born 9/5/1886, & Ralph Downing, born 22/9/1883, were baptised Silverdale St Luke 8/11/1898 father Schoolmaster, address West Terrace.

. Ladye Bette Downing was baptised there 13/11/1898 .
