1805. William Thompson was baptised to Philip & Rebecca Thompson in St Michaels Macclesfield on 21/4/1805 - FMP Parish Record Collection, no more details. Almost certain he is our man, as William calls his 2nd daughter Rebecca and his first son Philip. 1840 Rebecca Thompson could die 1840 Macclesfield - probably not, as no remarriage of a Philip before 1841C. Other baptisms: Sarah 1801, Hannah Stubs 1807, Jas 1809 -FMP & IGI.

His wife, Rebecca, is dead by 1841C. There is a death & burial Macclesfield Aug 1840 but no age given. She is buried, no age given, in August in St Michael C of E, Market Place, Macclesfield - FMP, grave 611a fiche 3 N Cheshire Memorial Inscriptions.

1841C Likely. this is our Philip Thompson, 55, wharffinger, living Buxton Road, Prestbury, Macclesfield with children Sarah, John, Philip & Rebecca [ seemingly named after her mother, but not so! . Somewhat odd as Rebecca would have been 50+ by 1831! Found her baptism on FMP and in fact Rebecca Stubbs Thompson is baptised to Sarah Thompson, single mother, in 1828 in Macclesfield ] Philip & John were baptised together in 1823 to Philip, silkman, & Rebecca

A wharffinger was similar to a warehouseman

Aged 71, he was buried in January in St Michael C of E, Market Place, Macclesfield - FMP, grave 611a fiche 3 - thus with his wife Rebecca, buried in this grave in 1840, N Cheshire Memorial Inscriptions.
