Robert McCall ~1786-1861

Robert McCall? was born to Robert McCall?, farmer, around 1786 in Kelton- no baptism 1774-1788 on SP . His d.c suggests a birth ~ 1777, but think the 1851C is more likely to be correct . When he died obviously no one knew who his mother had been

A lot of confusion with the writing of his name - McCall, McCaa, McCaw . . .!!

But no Robert McCall marriage to a Jean or to a surname like Bell anywhere in Scotland 1800-1827 - so a seeming dead end here. But a Jean Bell does marry someone in Kirkcudbright in 1806!! But not to a Robert or to a Mcca. Tempted to buy this as their first child was born 1806! But have now found it on IGI and it is to a John Murdoch in Troqueer!

Following the 1857 & 1861 death certs written as McCaa & McCaw , I have now found the following baptisms:

17/3/1806 William McCaa baptised to Robert McCaa & Jean Bell in Kelton- where Robert was born:

1808 Robert McCall born in Kelton - this from 1851C

1/10/1820 John Allan McCaw baptised to Robert McCaw & Jean Bell in Urr:;

14/4/1822 Jean McCaw baptised to Robert McCaw & Jean Bell in Urr;

8/5/1825 Alexander McCaw was baptised 1825 to Robert McCaw & Jean Bell in Kirkbean

1827 Arantina Henrie McCallwas baptised on 24/3/1827 to Robert McCall & Jean Bell in Kirkbean, Kirkcudbright , Kirkcudbrightshire, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.- Scotland's people. I could purchase this baptism but it will likely not tell me anything more- maybe a different form of the mother's name??

Cannot find Arantina/Henrietta in the 1851C

1851C Robert McCall, 65, is at Westpreston, Westpreston, Kirkbean

West Preston was very near Loaningfoot, both out E of Kirkbean. Google 'old maps' . Not shown on modern maps

Alexander 1848 is Elisabeth's son: she marries Joseph Fergusson 1851-1854 & lives in Kirkmahoe1861C, both born Kirkbean

Jacob McCall marries ~1856 and is living in Colvend in 1861C, stated born Rerrick ,which is only ~3 m SE of Kirkbean - Ancestry Noble tree exists with Jacob : contacted 30/11/2013

Does Herriet marry a Harkness?

Just cannot find a death for Robert/Jean Mccall 1851-1854 in parish burials, nor 1855 onwards in the State records

Have looked at summary of all McCall deaths 1855-1872 in Kirkcubrightshire - neither of them are to be found!

Thus would conclude that both died 1851-1854 and that parish records on SP do not include every parish

But then found an Ancestry tree has him dying 24/3/1861 in Kirkbean as Robert McCaa. Purchased this, below, - actually cert. could say McCan / McCaw- aged 84 . Did not think this is he - too old- but who knew his age?!!- and did not have a son called Robert to my knowledge - but then found a Robert born 1808 in the 1851C - who had left home by the 1841C

Same tree has Jane McCaW/ Bell dying 1857 Kirkbean, Loaningfoot- found this on SP and it is for a Jean McCaw . Looks more like McCan but could also be McCall!!

Back to 1851C to see if another Robert & Jane McCaa/McCan/McCaw exist? NO . So, worth me splashing out on this dc for Jane , especially as a previous name was BELL!!

1857. Jane McCaw dies 24/6/1857, aged 72, at Soaningfoot, Kirkbean of Dropsy 4 month. Certificate signed by Robert McCaw, husband, present at the death. Buried in Kirkbean Churchyard . Her parents were William Bell, labourer & Margaret Allan
