1768. Thomas McCunn was baptised in Inverkip, ~5 miles SW of Greenock, Renfrewshire to Samuel McCunn & Janet Lennox.
Thomas McCunn marries Elizabeth Hastie ~1798. No marriage found by me on FS. & none on SP. I found a 1798 marriage but not to Elizabeth Hastie , BUT, JenniferMuir/Heffernan has a marriage 21/8/1798 in Inverkip to Elizabeth Hasty . Daughter Jane's 1877 dc gives her parents as : Thomas McCunn, ropemaker, deceased, & Elizabeth Hastie
They have the following children: Jane 1802, baptised Inverkip, Ann 1808, Margaret 1811 & Thomas 1815- he a sailmaker in 1841C - the last 3 all baptised in W/Old Parish Greenock, Renfrew. -FS. Jane herself given as born Greenock - from 3 censuses
1841C . a Thomas McCunn , 73, is living Shore Street Inverkip, Renfrew, with Margaret McCunn 65. Has he remarried after his wife Elizabeth died? Also in the house a Janet Brown, widow, with 3 children.
| Thomas McCunn | 73 | Ind | b. Renfrewshire |
| Margaret McCunn | 65 | FS | b. Renfrewshire |
| Janet Brown | 40 | Widow | b. Renfrewshire |
| Grace Brown | 10 | b. Renfrewshire | |
| Jane Brown | 8 | b. Renfrewshire | |
| Margaret Brown | 5 | b. Renfrewshire |
1851C Janet Brown, 50, a servant, b. Greenock, widow, is living with Margaret Brown 14. in West Bay Inverkip . Thomas McCunn will almost certainly have died. What about Margaret McCunn ~75: at 2 RopeWalk Street, Greenock, Margret McCunn 77, unmarried, pauper, previously servant, b.Gourock, ~1-2 miles west of Greenock.. Was she then a younger sister of Thomas? - I have found no siblings born to his parents after 1768. But there is a Margaret baptised Greenock 1775 to a Robert McCunn, but is there also a Thomas baptised ~ 1767 to this Robert???, so feel maybe the 1841C Thomas McCunn is not ours, also not a ropemaker!
