This is the 1839 Testament of the estate of William Latta, born 1783, Dumbarton to James Latta & Katharine Lang, widower of Ann Watson and father of Henrietta 1829.
His testament starts half way down the right hand page & is missing page 96, which I do posses in printed form!

This states that William Latta, ships carpenter, sometime in Dumbarton therafter in Greenock who died in Greenock 26/11/1837, as made and given up by James Latta ship carpenter in Dumbarton Executor nearest in kin to the said deceased William Latta . The proceeds of Household furniture . . .£ 17 7 4, household furniture unsold £ 3 4 6 Amount of . . due to the deceased from the sequestrated estate of James Lang shipbuilder in Dumbarton as valued b on said estate by the Trustees £ 50 .Total £70 11 10 . Goes on to say that the deceased was the nearest in kin to James Lang ship carpenter.
Waiting to see - from SP - whether William's mother, Katharine Lang, had a father James Lang
The William Latta who married Ann Watson 28/12/1805 in Cardross [part of Dumbarton] was the middle son of James Latta & Katharine Lang : they had Robert 1781, William 1783 & Robert 1785
Robert Latta 1785 married Henrietta Allison 21/12/1805 and they had: James 1807, David 1808, Robert 1810, William 1812, Catherine 1813, Henrietta 1815, Robert 1819, David 1820, Robert 1826, all baptised Dumbarton - the early baptisms just on SP, the later ones on both FS & SP.
Thus when William Latta 1783 died in 1837 with no sons, if his brother Robert 1785 was also dead, then his next of kin would have been his nephew, James Latta 1807 . His age is rounded down to 30 in the 1841C, but in the 1851C he is 42, in the 1861C 53, in 1871C 63, always a ships carpenter or shipwright, b. Dumbarton - so he is our James Latta in the 1841C
Additionally - the
1847 Testament of another William Latta. I purchased this to see if he was related to Henrietta: the answer is NO. Some day I will draw the tree of his family, but for the record his father was a William Latta & his wife a Janet Lang. All info. I have is attached to the printed copy of this.
