Tree at end of page.
1829. Thomas Houstoun married Agnes Graham 11/12/1829 in Lochwinnoch, Renfrew. Lochwinnoch is about 10 miles SW of Paisley . Banns also proclaimed in Renfrew?
1841C. Thomas Houston, 30, cotton HLW, living Fulbar Street Renfrew with his wife, 4 children and his likely brother and mother, Ellen. This would imply his father had died.
| Thomas Houston | 30 | Cotton H L W | b. Renfrewshire |
| Agnes Houston | 26 | not b. Renfrewshire | |
| William Houston | 10 | b. Renfrewshire | |
| Agnes Houston | 8 | b. Renfrewshire | |
| Ellen Houston | 4 | b. Renfrewshire | |
| Alexander Houston | 2 | b. Renfrewshire | |
| Alexander Houston | 25 | Labourer | b. Renfrewshire. Probably a brother |
| Ellen Houston | 55 | Independent | not b. Renfrewshire Probably mother of Thomas |
1851C. Thomas Houston, 44, HLW, living in Pinkertons Lane, Renfrew with his wife and 4 children.. There is a Margaret Houston, 62, widow, b. Renfrew, tambourer, living in Fulbar Street, but no other Houstons there
| Thomas Houston | 44 | HLW | b.Renfrew |
| Agnes Houston | 39 | b. Monkland, Lanarkshire | |
| Helen Houston | 16 | b.Renfrew | |
| Alexander Houston | 12 | b.Renfrew | |
| Robert Houston | 9 | b.Renfrew | |

| Thomas Houston | 13 | b.Renfrew | |
| John Houston | 9 | b.Renfrew | |
| Graham Houston | 7 | b.Renfrew | |
| Hannah Houston | 3 | b.Renfrew |
Thus they have given birth to at least 9 children 1831-1858: this is feasible as Agnes was very young when she married in 1829. Hannah Houston is the only baptism to them that appears on FS: she is baptised 16/3/1858 in Renfrew
1871C. Agnes Houston, 57, married, wife of waterman, b. Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, is living at 21 Renfield Street, Renfrew, with daughter Hannah 13. So where is her husband ?- do not think the words married & wife can both be a mistake
1877. Thomas Houston, labourer, 71, dies at 21 Renfield Street, Renfrew on 4/8/1877 of cancer of the stomach. Parents William Houston, weaver, & Ellen Wilson. Informant was his widow, Agnes Houston/Graham.

1881C. His widow, Agnes Houston, 69, b. Craigends, Lanarkshire is living alone at 21 Renfield Street
1899. His widow dies in Renfield Street- husband, Thomas, given as labourer.
On the 1871C Thomas is referred to in his absence as 'waterman' & on the 1913 dc of his son, Alexander, he, the father, Thomas Houston, is ,maybe? -unclear - given as Master Waterman. Thus he only became a Waterman after 1861, that is after the age of 55, and had ceased to be one before his death in 1877.

Correction: there was a Helen Houstoun baptised 1815 & Margaret Speirs Houstoun was baptised 1820
