I am searching for a Houstoun who married a Speirs.- from Margaret Speirs Houston baptised 1820 to William Houstoun & Helen Wilson
Children were baptised in Kilbarchan to a John Houstoun & Jane Speir in 1764 & 1771 , but no William found . A Robert Houston married Jane Speir in Lochwinnoch 16/3/1762 but I cannot link them to the 1761 William Houstoun marriage below, so think this is a red herring. Maybe Speirs came from the ancestors of Jean Park or, more likely, Helen Wilson!! But cannot find her baptism
1737 a William Houstoun was baptised to George Houstoun & Elizabeth Richie in Renfrew. Am not convinced this would be the William marrying in 1761 as he does not name any of his children George.
1742. A William Houstoun was baptised Kilbarchan Renfrewshire to Robert Houstoun & Ann Garner - more likely but Kilbarchan 10 miles from Renfrew & from Inchinnan.
1745. A William Houstoun was baptised Oct 1745 in Erskine to John Houston & Margaret Blackwood . This is the William shown as marrying Jean Park on Lizryan49 Ancestry tree. She also has parents for this John Houston, born in Renfrew 14/3/1715, a George Houston & Mary Clark. I was dubious of this as only 16 at most when he marries in 1761 - but is possible: place is much more likely & he does name a child John. But then where does Alexander for his first child come from??
1761. William Houstoun married Jean Park in Inchinnan, Renfrewshire on 2/5/1761. Inchinnan just 2 miles from Renfrew, Several suitable births of a Jean Park in Renfrewshire, but none in Inchinnan- ANY nearby? Lizryan49 Ancestry tree has her born 19/9/1746 to parents James & Agnes Park in Renfrew
They had the following children baptised in Inchinnan: Alexander 1762, Margaret 1763, John 1765, Christian 1767,William 1769.
And then baptised in Renfrew: Jean 1773, Robert 1776, Anne 1778 and William 1782
Kilbarchan 4 miles west of Paisley. Erskine and Inchinnan both NW of Renfrew, about 2 miles between each of them
