A very sad family. he, his wife and a son Thomas 1825 all have a tick in the column 'Blind, deaf or dumb'in the 1851C. And his son George 1821, and 2 other probable sons, David 1811 & John 1814, all end up in the Workhouse, most likely dying there 1894, 1903 & 1903 respectively. Also the son of George 1821, George 1856, is also in the Workhouse in 1901 & likely dies there 1903
1784 David Trelfer was born 9/4/1784 Lewes. - parents George Trelfer & Mary Dumbrell - these parents given on Stokoe tree. Now found on Ancestry E & W Christening Records 1530-1906 . Siblings were: Mary 1771, George 1774, John 1776, Thomas 1779, Ann 1781, Sarah 1786 and Charles 1779, all baptised in Lewes.
From Stokoe tree John was born 15/6/1817?? he did marry Martha Elliot 24/10/1862 with birth given as 1817
Seemingly no Trelfer baptisms nor marriages in Lewes 1800-1841 on FS. But a David Trelfer did marry an Ann Elliot in St. Nicholas Brighton in 1806 - this a possibility, as, except for the 1841C entry, his wife is called Ann . Lewes only about 6 miles from Brighton
Likely children: David 1811, John 1814, Mary 1818, George 1821, Thomas 1823, William 1827, Daniel 1830

No death of a Mary Trelfer and no remarriage of David Trelfer 1841-1851, thus I think the name of Mary in the above census is a red herring!

All 3 of the family have a tick in the column 'Blind, deaf or dumb' !!
Has he remarried: no deaths for a Mary Trelfer 1841-1851 & no marriage of a David Trelfer 1841-1851, so I think not. Also dofb of Mary & Ann are the same. So I think she just used another name in the 1841C and is indeed an ANN
