"Mom attended my baptism on 18/12/1949 because I was relatively old but she didn’t attend any of the other 3, who were more robust types."

His aunt Peggy was his godmother; she gave him his first watch at Ena’s 1962 funeral.   He had just turned 13 the week before and Teasy wasn’t at all amused by the delicate timing of the gift.

When Teasy was in hospital and I a 5/6-year-old staying with my aunt Alice in Riverstown, I went briefly to the Star of the Sea girls school.  That’s the school attached to the Sisters of Charity Convent; the Big House- photo below- to which the Convent Lodge of FitzGerald fame is moored.

Annestown, a small beach near Tramore, was where they used to go for Sunday picnics with sandwiches, etc., plus a Primus stove to boil water for the tea.

Went to St. Declan’s school around the age of 7, havin been at schoo; since aged 3.

Stories of his childhood - still to come!. The annual visit of the Chimney Sweep was a big occasion; coal had to carried throuh the hall to the bunker out the back; Christmas dinner at home and then the kids dispatched to their paternal grandfather's; Boxing Day the only time this grandfather came to their house( his mother and said person barely tolerated one another)

My brother and I went to De La Salle schools and Daddy Jack liked to pull our legs about the various brothers, who he thought would be “cross”.  In particular, there was a Brother James, who taught at St. Declan’s school when I was there.  He taught a class a few years ahead of mine but the layout of the school building was such that I had to pass through his classroom to get to mine.  There were two classrooms which led off his room and I suppose he got few up with boys coming late and traipsing through, disturbing his lesson.  I’m afraid I was an occasional transgressor.  In those days, corporal punishment was doled out for the most minor infractions, for instance, being late for class.  So every time I was late, I got walloped by my own teacher, the sainted Bro. Xavier.  One day as I was sneaking sheepishly through, Bro. James reached out, caught me by the ear and then lifted me off my feet by both ears and admonished me to be more punctual.  If not, he’d have a word with “Granddaddy Jack”.
That incident would have been in 1958-59.

1.      The first is of my Dad with Betty and my little brother, Gerry in 1955.

2.      The second is of Betty and me.  This was taken when we were both staying in Tramore, separately different aunts, when Teasy was hospitalised in Dublin, 1953.  The dog was called Rexy.

3.      The next is of Gerry, Betty and me, taken when she made her first Holy Communion in Tramore 1955.

4.      The next one is of the same trio, plus various members of The Tramore clan: Left: “Kitty in the Lodge” as she was always called, Alice [Kelly], Pierce Kelly (I think), Martin Kelly, Paddy Kelly, Kay Kelly in the veil (Confirmation?) and that looks like Jack on the right.  Taken in Tramore 1956.  I’ll have to re-confirm all bar Kitty and Alice.

5.      At my Confirmation, May 1960: Betty, Jack, Teasy, Kathleen (as she was then called) Me and Gerry (complete with Arran sweater) in front.

6.      The next one is from a group of Dad’s workmates:  Jack, Joyce Walshe (married to Danny Wyse, Jack’s life-long best mate, who must have taken the photo), Teasy, Lillian FitzGerald and Mossy FitzGerald.  These two latter were not related to us but they did live in Tramore.

7.      Me in Annestown, a cove on the coast near Tramore, where we use to go with our sandwiches and primus stove (for the tea) on Sundays.

8.      Me, Betty and Gerry in Annestown.

9.      Ditto

10.  Teasy in Tramore 1954 at about the time she was hospitalised.

11.  Jack, Betty, Nicola Kennedy (Kaye’s eldest), another one of the Kennedys – don’t know which, Nellie Kennedy (Kaye’s mother-in-law).  That must be Teasy on the right but it’s a poor likeness.

1981. He married Laura Marcela del Carmen Roncal Tello in Piura, Peru on 29/7/1981, the same day that Charles & Diana Spencer were married in London
