Alice, Mamie & Teasie ~ 1925

1928. She was a bridesmaid to her elder sister, Alice- see photo

~1933 . She obtained her Intermediate Cert (unusual for a (Catholic) girl in those days)

Possibly due in part to the age difference with her siblings, Teasy was better educated than might have been expected.  She completed her Intermediate Certificate Exam, aged about 16.  Thus armed, she won a job in the office of the L&N grocery chain.  This nationwide and still extant (as supermarkets) chain had its origins of the small town of Tramore.  Teasy was very proud of that job.  She would have continued after marriage but for Jack’s dictum: “a wife’s place is in the home”.

1945. Mary Fitzgerald, 27,shop assistant, John Fitzgerald, 26, tailor, on 2/4/1945 in Tramore, Co Waterford. His address Mount Sion Avenue, Waterford: hers Convent Lodge, Tramore . His father John Fitzgerald, tailor; hers Martin Fitzgerald, gardener. Witnesses John Joe O'Meara & Ellen Fitzgerald - his elder sister, b. 1916

BOTH occupations here are Incorrect- he was never a tailor, but a breadman and she was not a shop assistant but an Accounts Clerk

Parents’ wedding April 1945, taken outside the Lodge.  Interesting to note the short dresses.  No material available during the war.  Jack’s suit, famously, was also a year old.  The Best Man is John Joe O’Meara, whose family will feature in the Tramore clan data.  The Bridesmaid is Nellie (Ellen), my dad’s big sister.

They had 4 children: Catherine/Kaye born July 1946, Elizabeth/Betty born March 1948, Nicholas born December 1949 and Gerard born July 1951.  Gerard died on 24 March 2000.

Jack & Teasy's life

Teasie haemorrhaged the week after Betty was born, she was going to be moved to the infirmary  to die as there was no treatment. Daddy Jack( John Peter 1889), told Jack ( John1919) at the time that was how his mother ( Ellen Grant/F) died. Jack remembered her going upstairs and telling him to get her all the towels he could find - Betty

~1951/2. Teasie was in hospital in Dublin. Her sister, Alice Kelly, looked after Nick and baby Gerard at her home in Tramore. Other relatives looked after Kaye & Betty

More photos of her? With her children?

1977. Mary Fitzgerald died of cancer. She was buried in Tramore Churchyard cemetery

2012. John Fitzgerald died 24/7/2012
