Reportedly - from 1897 dc of Allan Gilfillan - Jane McArthur was the mother of James Gilfillan and thus the wife of Allan Gilfillan.. But in fact she was Jean for almost all census entries and on her dc.

1794. Jean McArthur was baptised to John McArthur & Elizabeth Clerk on 6/6/1794 in Glasgow. Seemingly their only child. But the only John Mcarthur marriage vaguely possible is that to an Elisabeth Sym 15/7/1793 in Glasgow

Parents were: William Gilfillan, handloom weaver & Jean Buchanan. He died of Fever~ 6 weeks .Informant was Jean Gilfillan, widow. He is buried in Lighthill Cemetery Glasgow .
