Paraty

Sunday, October 30th Paraty
Had a very rushed breakfast as the time on the IPad was put back an hour due to the ending of BST,!! There was a 20 minute zodiac ride to shore, where there was a colourful array of tourist boats, and there we had a two hour walk round the UNESCO town, which was beautifully preserved. It had been abandoned at one stage for a hundred years, having been a safe place to export the vast amount of gold mined inland. It was said to be a pirate friendly place. The waters around it are very shallow and large ships cannot get near. Our guide was from Barcelona and much of his talk was in Spanish as we were a multilingual group. At high tide, once a month, water is admitted to clean the, carless, streets. One of the churches had been reserved for Ladies Only, so that they had a meeting place to chat! There were lots of masonic symbols on the houses. We stopped to sample the local Chacaca ( a popular Brazilian beverage made from fermented sugar cane juice; purported to be spicy, sweet and fruity). . in a booze shop

Back aboard I had a swim before lunch by the pool. Read after a siesta and then had a weak Capriana on the back deck with smoked salmon sandwiches. Trivia, recap and briefing, cocktails, then dinner in the Terraza
