From 'The Harveys of Chacewater' available online" John Farren Penrose, an assayer, Cashier, magistrate & owner of a Redruth Mining Company [John F Penrose & Sons] lived in style in a large house with servants and a private chapel in the grounds "

The Penrose name is a local one meaning “top end of the heath” and was very
widespread
in west Cornwall. Harriet Penrose’s branch of the family were settled in and around Redruth from at least the 17th century, and mostly described themselves as ‘tinners’ or later ‘assayers’. They were not without means; a Will of 1742 (that of Harriet’s g
reat great grandmother, Jane Penrose) shows the
family then had shares in at least six different mining concerns.

The Penroses were landowners.  There is a Penrose Farm near Porthleven which I believe was in the family.  They would have made their money from their tenants .

'|A Cornish Inheritance The Harveys of Chacewater' by David Gore confirms that the Penrose Estate was between Porthleven and the sea and that they had interests in a number of mining projects. These grounds at Porthleven are now owned by the National Trust and open to the public.
