and a John Hopwood was baptised February 1752 to Francis & Elizabeth Hopwood in St Giles in the Field, Holborn, , London

John´s mother & father were members of the Wesleyan-Methodist society, and, after adorning the doctrine of God our Saviour, by a steady and exemplary piety, through the course of nearly half a century, died in peace. John himself was a military officer, highly respected for his personal excellance and professional abilities. He, John Hopwood, died during the infancy of his son Henry S Hopwood, born 1785 , leaving him to the care of an affectionate mother, who, shortly after her husband's death, removed to Rochdale.- these details form the Memoirs of Henry S Hopwood , part of The Wesleyan-Methodist magazine, 1833-06-01, Vol.12, p.385-394

Think this is she, and she has ventured north to Bury for work, maybe in a mill

:John & Margaret first had 2 children: Frances Isabella 1803 & John Hopwood 1806 baptised in Wesleyan faith, Bury & then, maybe- but surely must be as Hopwood is given as the middle name in John's grandson 1845,

1816 Henry Ormroid was baptised 13/6/1816 to John & Margaret in Padiham Wesleylan Chapel - FS . Padiham only~ 3 k W of Burnley but well N of Bury Slightly odd thing about this is that no Marsden recorded in his name . And where did Marsden come from??

1832. Son John Ormrod may have married Hannah Lacey in Burnley but cannot find him after this- lots of deaths Burnley 1848 onwards

1832. Her husband, John Ormrod , 60, thus b.1772, of Bank Shell, Burnley - image available- may have been buried on 19/12/1832 in Burnley : this could well be he, but John Ormrod was a common name, maybe more so in Bolton though than Bury

1841C. Margaret Ormored, 59, Independent, is living with her, likely widowed, daughter Frances & a granddaughter in Paradise Street, Whalley, BurnleyUnion. Daughter Frances is a weaver

1841. An Elizabeth Hopwood Ormrod, aged 1, of Yorkshire Street, Burnley - image available- is buried May 1841 - Ancestry & FS. She would appear, from 1841C, to be a child of James,1811, & Betty Ormrod , living Parliament St in April 1841 - ODD, but not if James Ormrod 1811 was another son of John Ormrod & Margaret Frances Hopwood, whose baptism I have not found

Index

Henry Serjeantson Hopwood was baptised in Lincoln in 1785; and another brother John Dolb Hopwood baptised in York in 1787 to John Hopwood & Frances Hinchcliff . According to the Memoirs of H S Hopwood ( written in 1833 by a son) his, Henry´s, father was in the military : a John Hopwood , born about 1743, was in the 54th Foot and receiving a pension in 1792: could be his father but no proof . A Colonel Serjeantson was his godfather : a Colonel William Rookes Leeds Serjeantson, of Camp Hill Estate, Yorkshire( less than 20kS of Kirkby Fleetham!) died in 1840( he unlikely to have been a Colonel in 1785! )

In the Memoirs (Meet Google Drive – One place for all your files) it states that his fathe died in his infancy, thus before 1790?, and that his mother, Frances, moved to Rochdale, remarried ,and died August 1830

Henry S Hopwood was órdained´ in 1806. He preached at: Southport, Chesterfield, Halifax, Pontefract, Rotherham, Hull, Stockport, Oxford, Bath, Stourport, Derby, Nottingham and finally at Bristol South, the He was appointed Wesleyan Methodist minister for Nottingham in 1828. Chairman there in 1829.In August 1831 he wa smoved to be preacher at Bristol South And the Evening News stated, in August 1832,that 15 Wesleyan preachers had died: this included Henry S Hopwood - FMP Newspapers. Could not find an individual obituary . Thus Henry S Hopwood 1785-1831

1831.The Rev. Henry Serjeantson Hopwood, 46, of Welligton Terrace Bedminster was interred in a vault in Bristol on 25/11/1831, having died, paralytic, on 19/11/1831 - Ancestry Non conformist registers

Langton Street Chapel was the second chapel built in Bristol and John Wesley preached here too. However the church moved to a new building in Langton Street which opened on 19 June 1828. It was built to a traditional design, with galleries on three sides and a flat ceiling. It was destroyed on 3 January 1941 by an incendiary bomb. A new church was erected in the 1960s to the south of St Mary Redcliffe church
