The site of Mill Lodge has been the Harrodian School since its foundation in 1993. Before that this riverside location on the south bank of the Thames in Barnes served as a farm, a private residence and a sports club( for harrods) :

1901. 15/2/1901. A letter appears in the Richmond Herald thanking the ratepayers of Barnes for having elected him to the County Council for the past 12 years ad hoping they will re-elect him: in the letter he talks of his opposition to two tramway schemes, and the building of a new Lunatic asylum and the enlargement of another one!

he was of Venn, near Tavistock- from newspaper article on the proving of Samuel's Will on 20/1/1903 Edward Riley Keene was of Mill Street, Dockhead . Samuel likely left money to his coachman of 18 years, one Charles Patrick, as he bought a livery stables in Barnes in 1904

From FMP Newspaper reports, he was connected to the Surrey Commercial Dock Company: they regret his death 'as a colleague' but he was actually its Chairman, as the report of his death in the Dorking and Leatherhead Advertiser of the 31/1/1903 states: this also gives him as Chairman of the Surrey branch of magistrates and with 2 more addresses, those of 16 Mark Lane and 9 Old Corn Exchange

1988. The playing fields were sold and the Harrodian School erected on the site, opening in 1993 .

Maybe worth asking the school and Harrods if they have any old photos or maps of what was there around 1900 David . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
