Jean Camron / Jane Cameron 1788-1870

From Alan Gillies´ Hector blog:

Jane’s grandfather, Hector Cameron of Lochaber, had fallen at Culloden and his widow brought their son to the safety of a’Chomraich (the sanctuary) as Applecross was known. The son married in Applecross and Jane was either his daughter

1788. Jean Camron was born to Donald Cameron & Catherine McRae ; cannot find a marriage of these two 1760 onwards. And do not seem to be any births of any name in Applecross 1786-1792. ODD - maybe some church reisters are missing. Her grandfather was Hector Cameron of Lochaber , who was killed 1746 at Culloden

A Roderick Mcrae was the local minister in 1835

Callakille is a beautiful, white washed crofter’s cottage, tastefully modernised throughout whilst carefully preserving its traditional cottage charm. It can be reached by a track, and has its own water supply and limited mobile reception. Recent renovation has included the addition of a new bathroom with a fabulous roll top bath with views over the water, a large shower, and under floor heating. There is now an extended kitchen dining area, installation of beautiful oak flooring on the lower level, and of traditional dormers windows with panel shutters in the bedrooms. This and the thoughtful furnishing and decoration makes this a unique holiday place.

The property has been marketed by Wilderness Cottages for a number of years and is one of our most popular in the area.

The cottage’s unrivalled position makes it a peaceful haven where you can relax, unwind and perhaps sample some of the coastal and mountain walks and great sea and trout fishing.   It enjoys spectacular views from the kitchen, lounge and bedrooms over the Inner Sound of Raasay to Rona, Raasay and the Cuillin mountains on Skye.  On a clear day the mountain landscapes of the Outer Hebrides are visible. There are beautiful sandy beaches a mile away at Sand and also at nearby Cuaig.  The croft is perfect for enjoying magnificent west coast sunsets or on a clear night, stargazing.
