1898/9. Edith Natalie Brown was born to William & Gertrude on 25/12 in Natal, South Africa. Her elder sister was born there 1897- newspaper entry- and she is given as aged 3 on 1901C: Edith as aged 2. So I feel she would hve been born 1898

1899. He was in the Thorneycroft Mountain Rifles : enlisted 27/10/1899, discharged 15/2/1901. He was awarded a medal & 6 clasps for hthis period: his mother seems to have claimed these in 1912( his mother, and NOT his wife!) . He saw action at Spion Kop, 1900,

Where was he buried??

The following on Longmore/Brown/ Ancestry tree- not verified by me : .

"Died of gunshot wound (Johannesburg Mounted Rifles - Boer War) National Archive roll has death listed as "Self-inflicted - Wounds died on 13 August 1901 at Johannesburg (Official casualty roll location: Johannesburg)"". Maybe he died in Johannesberg of the wounds suffered at Bethseda?

His record shows he had £8.50, but this was paid to Lt. Col Warren as repayment of an advance!

His medals were claimed by his mother, Mrs J Brown, Milton Lodge, Keith- not by his widow! Almost unreadable record on Ancestry tree
