1914, enlisted in the Royal Bucks Hussars 29/9/1914 for 4 years in the TF. . Number 205351. Very badly damaged records exist on FMP - say little other than a corporal in 1918 when he was wounded in December in Canterbury
He served as a Corporal in the Transport Department of the R B H & was member of the British Legion - from his obituary
1919. 205351 over 1560 crossed out. Gawcott mentioned. In an Agricultural Co. at one stage. More very badly damaged records exist on FMP

This just an amazing coincidence: 1939 Register.??Same d of b- has he remarried ? Gladstone Terrace, Nottingham . A John Edward Stokes was registered Spalding Mar1871. But our John Stokes does not remarry during 1939 - though possibility he is just living with Sarah, or that she is a sister in law

So, where is our John Stokes in 1939? Searched thoroughly again on 7/9/2016. Not found- there is another John Stokes in Dadford but this is a John T T Stokes b,1873 with his 3 sons by Emily Kersey!
