William Scott 1778-1861
1778. William Scott was born to James Scott, master mason, & Hellen Armstrong(from his d.c.). No obvious baptism in Wilton/Hawick on SP.
Cannot find any more on James Scott~1744 - nothing in the Hawick Word book
But, 1778, a William Scott was baptised to James Scott & Nelly Elliot in Wilton - & Elliot rings a bell!!. To me it is suspicious that both his mother and his wife were Helen Armstrong- could there be an error on his dc?? . No marriage of a James Scott to Helen Armstrong 1760-1782 in Roxburghshire, but there is one in 1764 of James Scott to Helen Elliott in Wilton!
So, my conclussion is that William's mother was Helen/Nelly Elliott
No longer relevant!- 1782. A William Scott was baptised 30/1/1782 to John Scott & Margaret Scott in Wilton - SP
1807. William Scott married Nelly Armstrong on 22/2/1807 in Wilton- SP, record not purchased, likely would not tell us anything!
1815, James Scott born to William Scott , mason journeyman, and Helen Armstrong ( these names from his dc) . Have not found his birth on SP 1810-1830
1841C. William Scott , 55, Mason J , was living Borthaugh Cottages, Wilton, with his wife, Helen, 6 children & a granddaughter . Ages rounded down, so William could be 55-59, thus born 1782-1786

1841. A Wm Scott is buried 3/10/1841 in Wilton- SP . Bought it but does not give me his age . Seems to say his address was Teviot Bank this part of Wilton, so did not rule out this being his burial , but NO- he was still alive in 1851C!
1851C. William Scott , 72, stone builder, was living Borthaugh Cottages, Wilton, with his wife, Helen, 4 children & a grand daughter. .
