Big smoker

~1960-1970. Gerald Baer lived at Flat 8, 24 Lowndes Street, London SW1 ( for much of Carolyn's childhood – remembers visiting & loving the area!}

Heard stories that he and my grandmother, at separate times, spent time in psychiatric hospitals and he attempted suicide.

Patricia Baer was very close to her parents and I believe was a huge support to them. They visited us several times a year in Yorkshire and my mother would stay with them in London too. (sometimes taking one of us with her).

I heard rumours (many of them from mum's sister Jean) that they both had breakdowns at different times.  Jean herself  struggled with mental illness for much of her life and suffered some cruel interventions.  When she was well she was great fun and I think she found some happiness with her second husband but finally committed suicide in the early 80s

1971/2 . Gerald Baer moved to the Carlton Hotel, Bournemouth around 1971/2 before moving to less glamorous boarding house type accommodation.  Carolyn remembers visiting when she was at uni

He died at 67 Lansdowne Road, Bournemouth of bronchopneumonia and ischaemic heart disease. He was a foreign exchange broker, usual address 8 Canford Crescent, Canford Cliffs, Poole, Dorset .
