Christopher Robinson - aged ~ 40?, then ~1897 , and his wife, Elizabeth Armitage b.1852: sister of George 1857

"Looking at his regalia his apron indicates that he is the Provincial Grand Standard Bearer for the Province of West Yorkshire: after he spent his year as Worshipful Master he would need to wait 7 to 10 years minimum to be appointed as a Provincial Grand Officer. I would put the date around 1900.

You may be able to ascertain exactly who it is by contacting the Provincial Grand Secretary of the Province of West Yorkshire, they will have a website and contact details.  Explain what you are doing he may help you. They should have records of all their active provincial officers going back to the time of the photograph." - Bill

20/3/2020 I have contacted the Provincial Grand Office for the Province of West Yorkshire- via a form on their website . Had a reply 25/3/2020 and sent Martin the photo . 29/3/2020 had the following reply :

Christopher T. Robinson was Installed as Worshipful Master of Nelson of the Nile Lodge No. 264 on 2nd. December 1889.
At the Annual Meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge held at the Victoria Hotel, Sheffield on  27th April 1906 he was appointed Provincial Grand Steward. The following year at The Albert Hall Leeds on 24th April he was promoted Provincial Grand Standard Bearer, he is shown wearing this regalia in this photograph.

At the time of both occasions, he was resident at:-
Croft House
Purlwell Lane
Batley.

The title of the Lodge may appear curious for a landlocked Province. It was founded in 1788 as a military lodge on the coast later surrendering its warrant. During the period when new lodges were not being created, it was possible to resurrect a redundant warrant for a new lodge. This being the case here, when Nelson of the Nile opened in the West Riding of Yorkshire in 1801and where it yet thrives!
