Children of William Henry Gosling 1849
Update of January 2019 from Phil: thus have created a page on William Henry Gosling 1896
William Henry Gosling, age 14 who is with William & Trinder in Motherwell in 1911 along with three other children.
In the 1901 census, William Henry Gosling is recorded as a 4-year-old ‘Nephew’ in the household of William Giles & Clara Elizabeth (nee Sweeney) in Bedfordshire. Clara is an elder sister of Ellen Sweeney, who married Benjamin Gosling in 1896.
From the GRO, there are 11 William Henry Gosling births registered 1893-1899. None of them has a mother’s maiden surname of Lovesay, but one of them has a MMS of Sweeney:
GOSLING, WILLIAM HENRY [SWEENEY] GRO Reference: 1896 S Quarter in SAINT OLAVE SOUTHWARK Volume 01D Page 226. St Olave Southwark encompasses Bermondsey.

Although they share the same surname, is it a coincidence, or are Benjamin and William (1870) distant relatives? I’ve traced Benjamin back to a William Gosling born c.1805 Richmond, Surrey, but any further back than that will have to wait a bit.
So the question could be, did William (1870) have an affair with Ellen, but Benjamin married her anyway with the proviso that he wouldn’t bring up another man’s child? That could be why he was with the Giles’s in 1901 and he may well have gone to William & Trinder when they married. Was that why they went up to Scotland and then ended up back in London? More questions than answers I know, but I guess we will never find out now.
Children: William 1870, Florence 1876, Ada 1879 , Frederick James 1881, Mary 1886, John 1887 , George 1890, Edgar 1892, Leonard 1896.- source Gill.

Frederick's and Ada’s wills are available from https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/.
Although I[ Philip] haven’t downloaded either of them, the basics are given on the site.

Doris May Parsons is Frederick & Ada’s eldest daughter (c.1906~2001), who married Edgar J Parsons in 1929.
"Incidentally, a year or two ago I spent an afternoon looking round Sidmouth cemetery with my mother (who is half Gosling!), but I couldn’t find any grave(s) for them."

There are 2 passenger records for a John Gosling leaving England: 1. John Gosling, age 20, Carpenter, sailing 'Third Class' on the "Teutonic" from Southampton to New York on 18/4/1906 . 2. John Gosling, 22, Rlwy Worker, sailing on the " Lake manitoba" from Liverpool, arriving Quebec 17/7/1910, his destination given as Toronto. The occupation in the first one is more likely, but age of 2nd fits better! There is also a John Gosling 27 on the "Franconia" sailing from Liverpool , arriving NY1/2/1915, given as tent maker, returning to Toronto where he had been for 3 yrs.
“John Benjamin Gosling WW1 soldier born 15 Oct 1887, Gloucester, England
Sailmaker, wife is Lillian Alice, both living at 554 College St, Toronto, Ontario. Signed papers Oct 18 1915.
He was married in York, Toronto, Ontario on Dec 23, 1910, to Lillian Alice Baker daughter of Gilmore George Baker & Susan Cox. John Benjamin Gosling is the son of Wm Henry Gosling & Mary Ann Taylor.”
Birth: Lilian Alice Baker 1887 Q1 Gloucester 6A 295.
Lilian and her father probably went to Canada sometime between 1891 and 1901, their last appearance in any census being 1891. So far though, I haven’t found an obvious emigration record for them. There is a death record in 1897 in Gloucester for a Susan Baker. She was the right age to be Gilmore’s wife, and her death could have prompted them to go. Their two sons, Gilmore & Alfred, stayed behind and appear in the 1911 census living in the same house in Gloucester. No sign of their mother, Susan.
In 1891, the Bakers were living in 10 New Street, South Hamlet, Gloucester, and sometime between 1891 & 1901, William Henry Gosling moved first to no 54 New Street and then to no 56.
Attached is a photo of John,& Lilian’s grave marker from http://www.findagrave.com. They are buried in the Pine Hills Cemetery, Scarborough, Toronto.
.
Gordon is also on it, but whether he is buried there isn’t clear at the moment, but from Marion’s death record, it seems they were living in Abbotsford, which is about 50km east of Vancouver.
I haven’t yet looked for any other children of John & Lilian, but Gordon W Gosling married Marion Lumsden McPhail (b.02 Aug 1918 Scotland ~ died 04 Apr 1985 in Matsqui, British Columbia, Canada). She is buried in the Hazelwood Cemetery, Matsqui, which is just north of Abbotsford.

By one of those weird coincidences, Marion is buried about 20km south of Hatzic Cemetery, Mission City, where another 1st cousin twice removed, Sophia Welsh (nee Curtis), is buried (John Benjamin was also a 1st cousin twice removed).
There are 4 visits of John Gosling to Sidmouth from Canada, or return .

George, now going by the name of Ernest, travels to Canada with Edgar in 1911, see Edgar Gosling below... George married Helen Hubbard 26 March 1915 in Toronto.

Photo is attached of their gravestone in the Pine Hills Cemetery, Scarborough, Toronto.

9. Edgar Gosling 1892,1911C 56 New street Edgar 19 labourer at Wagon Works
Edgar is yet another Gosling that seeks pastures new in Canada. There is a passenger list for the ‘Southwark’ sailing from Liverpool to Quebec & Montreal on 18 May 1911, with both an Ernest Gosling age 21, and an Edgar Gosling age 19, on it.
The date of the 1911 census was 02 April 1911, which is why they both appear with William & Mary at 56 New Street, Gloucester.
