Frederick John Gosling was born 3/10/1846 Rattery. First child of parents John Gosling & Elizabeth Inniss . 3 subsequent brothers

fredbc-1846

A possible reason Frederick that was born in Rattery, was that John & Elizabeth Gosling - or at least Elizabeth Gosling could have been down there to visit George and Emma Norman, at Marley Garden House, Rattery, where George was employed as a gardener.
Emma's maiden surname was Kelson and she originates from Gloucester. In 1841 Emma Kelson was a ‘Farm Servant’ in the Barton Regis area of Bristol, Gloucestershire; while Elizabeth was a F.S. living in Gloucester ??and they may have met there. Again, it might seem a bit thin, but so far, it’s the only plausible explanation I can come up with. - Philip

And in the 1841 and 1851 censuses, there are no Goslings noted in Rattery: and it is a bit far to go for work when everybody else seems to be going in the opposite direction!.

'My Ancestor Was An Agricultural Labourer' ,published by The Society of Genealogists, is a bit of an eye-opener! The average wage of an 'Ag Lab' in Wiltshire in 1851 was seven shillings a week!

By 1849 his family are living in Gloucester and stay there through the 1851C, 1861C & 1871C, his father, John Gosling, a labourer in all 3. .

1868 Frederick John Gosling, sawyer, married Mary Allen 29/6/1868 in St. James Church Gloucester .“Marriage solemnized at St James' Church in the (District of St James) near the City but in the County of Gloucester”

The informant for both these deaths was Fanny Gamlin. She was Julia Fanny, nee Gosling 1877, having married Frederick Gamlin 7/1/1899, Bedminster St. Silas Somersetshire, his father Robert Gamlin- IGI. . My mother remembers her as ‘Aunt Fan’.
Fanny Gamlin died 21 Jan 1965 and is buried along with her husband Frederick, and three other members of the Gamlin family in Greenbank Cemetery, Bristol.

Comment.

Frederick John Gosling 1846 and his brother George Enniss Gosling 1858, both lived in Bristol 1877/1891?-1927: I wonder how much they and their 10 children apiece saw each other!!
