Jacob William Segrott 1870-1950

Jacob C Segrott 1871 married a Beatrice Maud Cook and they had Jacob A Segrott 1921, William A Segrott 1923 Beatrice,1925, Stanley 1927 Ron 1932 &  Maureen1934

They lived in the house next to Chris’s family in Lower Road Erith.

Chris says there was an elder Segrott brother killed in the war, but Stanley would have been too young? bc 1927,  unless he went in at the end of the war?

Hop Picking - yes Chris remembers very well all the hop picking holidays.  I have photos and stories.  Chris last went when he was 16 or 17.

Aunt Beattie obviously went with Beatrice & Stanley.    Chris would have been taken even though only 1 yer old.

1939 Register Hoppickers Encampment Yew Tree Farm, Broad Oak, Tonbridge Jacob W Segrottt, widowed, born 6/??10?/1870 Hartleys Jam retired, with his daughter Jessie Cook , son in law Joseph C Cook, stevedore, and Maureen Cook/Dent , b.1934?? : she was the daighter of Jacob C Segrott 1898(son of Jacob 1870) & Beatrice Maud Cook 1896 (who had married in 1920) , whose mother was Gilbert . So, looked for a marriage of a Cook to a Gilbert 1880-1896 : an Alfred Cook married Harriet Emily Gilbert in 1882, BUT, do not know whether this Albert Cook bares any relationship to Chris's Cooks, probably not!!

See Christopher Cook page for hoppicking photos

Chris's mother and father were hoppicing at Hoppickers Encampment Yew Tree Farm, Broad Oak, Tonbridge  in the 1939 Register along with Jacob W Segrott 1870 and the above Maureen, who then went on to marry a Dent. Who was she??  Her mother was Cook, so actually the wrong way round to be a sister anyway!!- just thinking whilst typing. 😁. She was the daughter of Jacob C Segrott 1898(son of jacob 1870) and Beatrice Maud Cook 1896, whose mother was Gilbert . So, looked for a marriage of a Cook to a Gilbert 1880-1896 : an Alfred Cook married Harriet Emily Gilbert in 1882, BUT, do not know whether this Albert Cook bares any relationship to Chris's Cooks, probably not!!

Also at the farm, in a different group, are  - the said Beatrice M Segrott 1896 and, seemingly, 2 other children, Beatrice E 1925 and Stanley C 1927

There is also a Closed Record with Joseph C, Jessie. Jacob and Maureen : this could well have been 1 yr old Chris.

1934. Jacob Segrott attended the wedding of his daughter, Jessie, to Joseph C Cook . Surprisingly, his wife is not in this photos- was she ill??

1934wedd

L to R. ?, Jessie’s brother Tom, Joe, ?, Jessie, ?, Joe’s sister Mary (we think),  Joe’s sister Ginnie , Jessie’s dad Jacob, but not his wife!

1939 Register . Jacob Segrott 1870, Jessie E Cook, Joseph C Cook & Maureen Segrott 193 were hoppicking at Hoppickers Encampment Yew Tree Farm, Broad Oak, Tonbridge
