Panama Canal 2019
Jueves, el 24 de octubre.
Nos levantamos antes de las 6 para ver nuestra llegada a la Barrera del Canal de Panama- 'Cristobel Breakwater'- y la puente del Atlantico, muy impresionante. Entramos en las tres esclusas de Gatun, cada una con una subida de 9 metros. Entonces entramos en el lago de Gatun, muy escenico: vimos barcos contenidores muy grandes y la entrada de la reciente esclusa de Panmax.

We got up before 6 for our arrival at the Cristobel Breakwater . Then under the Bridge of the Atlantic and into the first lock. A tiny rowboat received our ropes and tied us up. The Silver Explorer paid about $30,000 to transit the canal- about $300 per passenger |

The ship was moving or transiting locks for about 7 hours, and we were moored, awaiting our turn to descend to the Pacific, for 3 hours on top of that. We entered at dawn, and exited into the Pacific in late afternoon, and anchored off Panama City

Each of the 3 Gatun locks had a rise of 9 meters : thus we were 27 meters above sealevel in the Gatun lake |

Desayunamos y escuchamos la charla de Pierre sobre la historia del canal: era interesante aprender la historia del intento de Escocia de establecer una colonia en Darien en el siglo 17.

Paramos por 2 horas a Gamboa y comimos en la cubierta 6 antes de continuar por el' Cubra Cut' y entrar en las esclusas Pedro Miguel .

Luego las dos esclusas de Mireflores antes de llegar al puente de los Americas y entonces anclar cerca de la Ciudad de Panama.

Un dia muy interesante. Bebimos cocteles en la cubierta 6 mirando los rascocielos de Panama y el barco Star Legend, muy cerca de nosotros. Despues de attender el Recap y Briefing y de disfrutar de tapas, cenamos en Hot Rocks
Viernes, el 25 de octubre. Desembarcamos en zodiac a las ocho para visitar el museo del canal a Miraflores: que muchedumbre- no valia la pena. Continuamos hasta el casco viejo, un sitio World heritage, muy restaurado desde nuestra ultima visita en 2007. Anduvimos ahi durante una hora antes de disfrutar de ceviche riquisimo y una cerveza fria en el elegante hotel Central.
