1902. Eliza Laelia Sander was born to Conrad F Sander & Marguerite Autrand in Bruges. The name Eliza from Conrad's mother; Laelia is the mexican for the most beautiful of the tribe & also a genus of orchids - Conrad's Memoirs

1911. Likely still living in Bruges.

~1912 onwards. She probably attended Westcliffe School in Herne Bay: her sisters, then aged 10 & 12, were there in 1911C .

1914. The family fled from Bruges in August 1914. They were scattered amongst relatives, but then their father obtained a rent free cottage in Chiswick as a Belgian refugee

1919. The family returned to their house in Bruges after June 1919

Laelia became one of the first women to qualify and work in the Probation Service (which had been established by her uncle Sir William Clarke-Hall)
She adopted a young boy - “Robin”

 

1962. Eliza Laelia Fearnley Sander, 60, died 86 Burry Road, St Leonards on Sea on 19/10/1962. Probate to Louie Frances Harkness Campbell, widow £2181
