1924. Ann Elizabeth Armitage born Wakefield Jun 1924 . Married Peter Hirst in 1964. Marriage dissolved, no issue ,1924-1993

I know she was married briefly to  George Peter Hirst (I knew him as Peter - they lived in Batley), served in the Women's Land Army during the war.  She was a true Yorkshire woman..fierce with a good heart.  Loved the countryside, horses and dogs (Dandy Dinmonts) .  She was very much part of our childhood, taking us to point to points and always at family occasions.  Heard stories that she wanted to be a vet in an era when many women weren't afforded that opportunity. Keen huntswoman before I was born and had her own horses as a young woman.  She worked as a vet's assistant in later life and died very suddenly of a heart attack on the way home from a dog show (she wouldn't have wanted it any other way!).  Was a brilliant bridge player and I believe she played for GB (maybe in the late 60s/early 70s)- certainly there was a photo of her playing with Omar Sharif but I don't know what happened to that.

This child seemingly not theirs- but did have a mother Cooke- need to do more research!! 1926. Geoffrey Armitage was born Wirral Jun 1926- a so called child died aged 2 Halifax Mar 1927. A Sydney Armitage did marry a Florence Cooke in Doncaster in 19220 - this Geoffrey presumably theirs
