Buenos Aires - November 2022

Sunday, November 6th. Buenos Aires. Evita. tour

33

Evita's involvement in politics and social work gained her a powerful position and she became known to all as Evita, unofficial saint to millions. Her untimely death at age 33, magnified her saintly aura and gave place to the legend that has surrounded her name ever since. .

An early start for our tour Evita.  Drove to the Casa Rosada, unfortunately in the shade. Then to the Recoleto Cemetery to see the mausoleum of Evita Peron/Duarte . Then to the Eva Peron museum, which had been the home of the Eva Peron Foundation from 1945 to 1955, she died of cervical cancer in 1952 and then her husband was ousted from the Presidency in 1955, Peronism was then prohibited until 1970. Here we had a guided tour by an excellent guide followed by a talk, translated, by one one of the museum directors. . The Museum, where the story of her life unfolds through her personal objects, is housed in a mansion where her charity, the Eva Peron Foundation, once gave shelter to single mothers.

Monday, November 7th . Disembark at Buenos Aires

Took photos of our favourite husband and wife waiters,Gerans & Laura, and of Lynne whilst we enjoyed our final breakfast out on the Terraza deck. Then off the ship at 9 and transferred by coach to the hotel. From there by taxi to the airport where we arrived by 11 for our 14.00 Iberiaflight to Madrid. Our premium economy seats saved us from the worst of Iberia. The main meal was fine but their snacks were tasteless, their service non existent, and their aisles too narrow.

Tuesday, November 8th

Arrived in Madrid by 5.40 and had to wait until 13.10 for our connection to Alicante . David lost his credit card in the airport, buying 2 smoothies. Discovered the freezer had frozen itself shut in the house- some 4 man hours to sort that out!: back to reality, but, ....a really interesting 6 weeks away, although the standard of food on the ship had certainly gone down since June!!! And the Boyzz were keen to introduce their new friend, Silversea Ted, to Facetious
