We stayed at Le Repaire Hotel, only a few hundred yards from the jetty: just as well, as they forgot to meet us and take our luggage. So, after exhausting myself walking with small rucksack fron the Discoverer to the ferry port in Mahe, I was really in a bad way on reaching the hotel, and then the receptionist completely ignored us!. Eventually the Operations Director, Marco, came upon us and plied us with cold drinks, cold towels and excessive excuses; from then on, matters improved!!. And we enjoyed our stay there, although unimpressed by their busy restaurant. We had a great beachview room with large covered balcony - really useful one gloomy/rainy day

Sitting under these trees on the beach, so close to the water, with not a vendor in sight, a pool to oneslf just behind, was a magical experience

Breakfasts were good and the fodies and friends would fly around to entertain us. Staff loved the Boyzz too.

We hired Hendrick & his golf buggy to give us a tour of the island. This took about 2 hours and covered all the island: up to the high view point,
up north and onto Anse Fourmis, then back & over the mountains to Grand Anse

We walked to the Old Plantation one morning, with a rest en route in the church: we remembered travelling by ox cart there in 1971
After a coco shake we continued to Anse d'Argent - wondrous rocks- and then back for another superb shake/mojito before heading home

We walked the 200 yards or so to the Fish Trap most nights for yummy passion fruit mojitos

 

We also walked to the Veuve Reserve, a protected habitat for the endangered Black Paradise Flycatcher - but none to be seen!!

 

Desembarcamos en Mahe a las nueve y media del sabado el 5 de enero. Anduvimos los casi 2 kilometros hasta el terminal de ferrry para las islas- una distancia que me agoto!. El ferry duro mas de una hora para llegar a Praslin donde tuvimos que tomar otro ferry hasta La Digue, muy cerca. Una vez ahi descubrimos que Nicki y su marido indio tambien pasareran vacaciones ahi!, y mas importante, que no habia una representacion de nuestro hotel, Le Repaire. Asi tuvimos que andar con las maletas y las mochilas, quizas solo tres cientos metros pero demasiado para mi! Y, una vez ahi, la recepcionista nos ignoro. Eventualmente el director Marco, nos descubrio, y habia muchas disculpas y bebidas frias. Y nuestra habitacion, 'Bwa de Roi', nos gusto mucho con su gran balcon cubierto y sus vistas sobre dos piscinas pequenas, jardines lindos y el mar. Nos quedamos ahi 5 dias. Cenamos en su restaurante la primera noche, pero habia demasiada gente y el servicio era demasiado rapido para nuestro gusto. Las otras noches disfrutamos de cocteles, 'sundowners' - mojitos de maracuya- en el 'Fish Trap', a dos cientos metros, y de un picnic en nuestro balcon. Una tarde exploramos la isla con Hendrick en un carro de golfe- muy agradable. La manana proxima anduvimos hasta la plantacion antigua de copra, que habiamos visitado en carro de buey en 1971!. Disfrutamos de deliciosos batidos de coco , y un mojito para David.. Llegamos hasta la playa linda 'Anse d'argent' - una excursion de 4 horas. Otra manana anduvimos hasta la Reserva Veuve, el hogar del 'black paradise flycatcher', pero no vimos este pajaro en peligro de extincion. Unas 5 dias en La Digue muy agradables
